Ninth Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, 123 St Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2: 21 and 22 September 2012 IMPORTANT GUIDELINES – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Scientific Session: Oral and Case Presentations: Friday 21 September 2012: times 14.00 – 16.15 CLINICAL CASE presentations Protocol Total time allocated per case presentation: 8 MINUTES, 5 minutes for presentation, and 3 minutes for questions Outline: History and Physical examination Differential Diagnosis and Investigation options Final working diagnosis Treatment (options) and outcomes Aim is to allow open and informative discussion of a range of interesting clinical topics/dilemmas. Method: Total of Four (4) slides per case / 5-minute presentation: Slide 1: Introduction, showing Name(s) of presenters, case being presented, and Conference (9th Annual Scientific Conference, FSEM, RCPI & RCSI, 2012) Followed by Three (only) Clinical Slides Slide 2 should include history and clinical findings; Slide 3 should involve the working differential diagnosis and investigation/results; Slide 4 should focus on the final working diagnosis, treatment and outcomes. There will then be 3 minutes for discussion of the case You must forward your final presentation to us by email by 5 pm on Monday 3rd September 2012 to stephbillault@rcsi.ie If your submission is adjudged not to follow the requested format, it may not be accepted for presentation. 1/2 2/2 ORAL PRESENTATIONS Oral Presentation - 12 MINUTES: 8 Minutes presentation, Q&A 4 Minutes Format: Purpose, Materials & Methods, Results and Conclusions. Oral Audio-Visual Presentation Guidelines: Presentations can be made using PowerPoint (pc format only). PowerPoint presentations should be emailed to stephbillault@rcsi.ie before 5pm on Monday 3rd September 2012 Slides should be set up with the AV technician by latest 1.00pm on the day of the meeting Oral presentations will be limited to 8 minutes, plus 4 minutes for questions. The presentation PC will support MS PowerPoint and Adobe PDF. You are strongly encouraged to burn a back-up CD/USB stick of your presentation, in case of technical incompatibility. If you require other special multimedia equipment, please contact the organizing committee. If you plan to play video- and audio files during your presentation, we strongly recommend to you check that these files can be used without third-party player and codec. All participants will have time (at the lunch break) before the scientific session to test the presentation in advance. Please note that special characters can differ on computers, which use different languages, and so do make sure to use international standard fonts (e.g. Unicode) for special characters. POSTER PRESENTATIONS Poster dimensions: AO Portrait only (‘Velcro’ fixings) Your poster may be put up on Thursday evening, and should be displayed from 9.00 on Friday 21st Delegates presenting posters will be required to make a short presentation of their work to the Judging Panel in either the coffee or lunch-break. (Further details on exact times for presentations will be arranged later.) Any poster which is not attended and presented will not be eligible for consideration for the Poster Prize. The poster should remain on display for the duration of the conference, and must be removed at the close of the meeting. (No arrangements can be made by the Faculty to retain them.) Please ensure that you are registered for the Conference.
