designated school-site prior to the NLC and a 60-minute objective test administered on-site at the

OVERVIEW: This event consists of two parts, an objective test and an individual role
play. A 60-minute objective test will be administered on-site at the NLC.

OBJECTIVE TEST & TEAM ROLE PLAY EVENT
OVERVIEW: This event consists of two parts, an objective test and a meeting
presentation. A 60-minute objective test will be administered at the NLC. Questions for
the parliamentary procedure principles section of the exam will be drawn from the
National Association of Parliamentarian's official test bank. The team score is
determined by the average scores of its members.

OVERVIEW: These events consist of two parts: a prejudged report and a presentation.
Competitors are required to complete both parts for award eligibility. I must receive

INTERVIEW EVENTS
OVERVIEW: These events consist of multiple components, including material submission prior to the
conference, a preliminary interview, and a final interview. The Future Business Leader event also
includes an objective test. Materials must be received by Judy by May 4.

The only two events that allow only two entries from a State are:
TEAM PERFORMANCE EVENTS
OVERVIEW: Student teams will compete online during the fall and spring competitions.
LIFESMARTS -- Online event which challenges students to integrate multiple areas of
business knowledge and skills, using critical-thinking skills and teamwork during
competition.
VIRTUAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT CHALLENGE -- Online event which is based on the all
new, completely web-based Virtual Business -Management 3.0 simulation. Each
challenge (fall and spring) focuses on different business concepts.

• Members are allowed to compete in only one event. If you qualified for more than one event, you must
choose your event by Monday, April 13. However, you can compete in one event plus one chapter
event.
• Achievement Awards. California FBLA will provide achievement awards of $300 for first place
competitors only except as noted below:



In any team or chapter event, you cannot increase the number of team members from the number that
competed at state. For instance, if you competed at state in the Business Plan event with a team of 1
person, then only 1 achievement award will be issued. However, if a team of three members submitted
your entry, then up to three (depending on how many attend the NLC) awards will be allowed.
Local Chapter Annual Business Report—Total of $300 for first place chapter.
An individual member may receive no more than $300 in achievement award assistance. If a
student qualifies for more than one award (e.g. 1st in an event and 1st in a chapter event), he or she will
receive a total award of $300.
ACHIEVEMENT AWARD POLICY
The purpose of your achievement award is to assist you in paying for this conference. As the recipient of this
achievement award, it is important that you fully participate in the conference. Here is a list of the activities
required in order to receive your achievement award.


California meeting (4 p.m., Monday, June 29)

Your competitive event
At the California meeting held on June 29 prior to the opening session, each first place competitor will receive
an Achievement Award Eligibility Form identifying required activities. At the beginning of each required
session, you must personally give this form to your Section Director or their designee who will sign it and
return it to you at the end of the session. The completed form is due at the Awards of Excellence session.
Checks will be mailed after the conference (by September 1) and will be made payable to the chapter for all
competitors who submit a completed Achievement Award Eligibility Form.
Please note: If you miss a session, $50 is deducted; and if you are late for any session, $25 will be
deducted from your achievement award. If you fail to compete, you will forfeit your
Achievement Award. Don’t forget about your Code of Conduct/Medical Form; $25 will be
deducted if not received by May 8.
