GRADE POINT AVERAGES
QUALITY POINTS
Certain grades give you QUALITY POINTS for each semester hour you earn. These grades are used to
compute your grade point average (GPA).

Other grades give you no quality points and are not computed in your GPA. These grades are P (pass), U
(unsatisfactory), W (withdrew), and I (incomplete). The grade of P will give you semester hours earned.
To compute your GPA, divide the total number of quality points you have earned by the total number of hours
you have attempted.

GPA = Hours Attempted = 13 = 2.307 GPA
NOTE: The number of hours attempted and the number of hours earned may be different because:
1. Grades of P and bypassed credit count as hours earned but not hours attempted.
2. Grades of F count as hours attempted but not hours earned.
UNO computes 3 different GPA’s each semester, the semester GPA, the UNO GPA, and the cumulative
GPA:
Semester GPA: the average you earn on the semester hours you attempt during one enrollment.
UNO GPA: the average you earn on coursework taken at UNO. This average is computed by
dividing the total number of quality points you have earned at UNO by the total number of semester
hours you have attempted at UNO.
Cumulative GPA: the average you have earned on all the college coursework you have attempted.
This average is computed by dividing the total number of quality points you have earned in college
(UNO and all other colleges) by the total number of semester hours you have attempted. This GPA is
listed as “overall totals” on your record.
ACADEMIC PROBATION
If you are on academic probation, you must make a 2.0 average this semester to remain in school. You will
remain on probation until your cumulative GPA and your UNO GPA are both 2.0 (or above).
