Purpose of the job:
1.
The main purpose of this post is to provide strong leadership for raising standards in all aspects of
achievement and contribute to the strategic development of the Academy to ensure that it continually
aspires to the highest standards
2.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Teaching & Learning









Raise achievement of all students at all phases ensuring students make good progress at least in
line with expectations.
Develop the use of data management systems to collect, monitor and analyse student progress for
strategic use throughout Key Stage 3 and 4 and for transition to key stage 5.
Provide strategic leadership of interventions to support individuals and groups of students at KS3,
KS4 and KS5
Develop robust recording and reporting systems that have significant impact on progress and
attainment.
Ensure that data support drives up the challenge and achievement in the classroom.
Oversee production of reports on, collation, analysis and dissemination of all external assessment
and progress data
Oversee production of reports on, collation, analysis and dissemination of all internal assessment
and progress data
To ensure all systems related to examinations are effective and efficient
Line manage specific subject areas
B. Strategic Direction






Ensure the academic profile is accurate and updated according to QA schedule.
Prepare detailed reports that utilise both external and internal standards and achievements data to
identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Take a strategic lead in the analysis, preparation and formulation of the Achievements and
Standards section of self-evaluation documentation.
Lead the effective use of appropriate data e.g., FFT, RAISE online etc. and any other emerging
data sources with middle managers to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Take a strategic lead in the preparation of detailed action plans to raise standards.
Carry out QA procedures to ensure all achievement targets for improvement are met.







Lead on the tracking of student achievement, identifying and monitoring cohorts of achieving and
underachieving groups of learners and give guidance to middle leaders on implementing systems
of support, praise and intervention.
Take a strategic lead with the implementation of faculty student achievement tracking and
monitoring systems.
Support Middle Leaders responsible for specific groups in the process of formulating action plans,
tracking formative and summative data and monitoring and evaluating the impact of raising
achievement strategies
Lead a climate of challenging personal targets for student achievement
Ensure all formative and summative reporting to parents/carers is effective, transparent and
meaningful.
Lead on educational initiatives linked to the achievement agenda for example Pupil Premium.
Ensure that effective transition of prior attainment data provides continuity between phases to
support all students to maximise their learning.
C. Working with Vice Principal: Teaching & Learning







Ensure that the understanding of data and student targets for progress and achievement is at the
centre of lesson planning and delivery.
Establish creative responsive and effective approaches to learning and ensure a culture and ethos
of challenge and support where all students can understand their potential and what they need to
do to achieve success and become engaged in their own learning.
Demonstrate high expectations and set realistic, obtainable targets for the quality of teaching and
learning and student outcomes.
Implement strategies which secure high standards of target setting and student challenge.
Determine, organise and implement consistent approaches to support Middle Leaders in their
management and development of data tracking and in their subjects, particularly when ensuring
consistent challenge across the timetable.
Develop and maintain a realistic culture of high expectations and take appropriate action when
performance is unsatisfactory.
Develop and maintain effective strategies and procedures for staff induction and professional
development.

Ensure a realistic consistent and continuous focus on student achievement through the mentoring
of students by Form Tutors and Heads of House (via target setting and monitoring of progress and
performance)
 Ensure the quality of behaviour management facilitates student achievement in order to set and
meet challenging targets for improvement.
 Ensure students treat others fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect to create and maintain a
culture of achievement.
 Celebrate the achievements of individuals.

GENERAL
Given the dynamic nature of the role and structure of Walton Girls’ High School & Sixth Form, it must be
accepted that, as the Academy’s work develops and changes, there will be a need for adjustments to the
role and responsibilities of the post. The duties specified above are, therefore, not to be regarded as either
exclusive or exhaustive. They may change from time to time commensurate with the grading level of the
post and following consultation with the member of staff
