PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME AND STILL SUBJECT TO CHANGE!!! Advanced C-Spine Course Program Instructions for teachers: As might be expected the trainees should have basic knowledge of spinal anatomy and surgical indications. Basic topics are removed and will have a place in discussion groups and plenary discussion. Except for “ complex” pathology lectures need to be concise, leave out classical background, with ample space for questions and organized battle between faculty members. The C-spine module has been changed for a part and is split in background theory and techniques. Surgical reconstructive techniques do have a larger role in the program. Combination of a concise presentation & sawbones Sponsor companies each to demonstrate one of the listed techniques, using their own products??? We have arranged a separate room/area for each company, with groups of trainees rotating between the different areas. Is this how you envisage it, Wilco? Anatomy Lab: Focus on surgical decompression and surgical techniques. Start with a few slides of technique. 7 human C-spine specimens per group (16 in all: to be turned over for Friday) plus one demonstration cadaver 4 C-arm X ray (FRED: could you please confirm total number available) Microscopes (one in lab; speak to Zeiss about additional microscopes) Drill + high speed Retractor systems Decompression instrumentarium Sponsor companies to make available a range of products, from which the trainees can choose. No rotation; each approach to be demonstrated in turn at the demo table, and trainees to attempt it “hands-on” on their own cadaver (there will be four trainees, plus one faculty member for five cadavers, and five trainees plus one faculty member for the remaining two) PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME AND STILL SUBJECT TO CHANGE!!!
