Advanced Placement Students have the opportunity to earn Advanced Placement (AP) credits both before and after they become degreeseeking undergraduates at UI. Credit opportunities before college enrollment: College Board Advanced Placement Exams (CEEB) o Students who took AP classes in high school and obtained a rating of 3, 4, or 5 on their College Board advanced-placement tests will be awarded credit at UI for those specific classes. o For specifics on the minimum score required visit http://www.registrar.uidaho.edu/transfer-guides/ap-credit.html College Level Examination Program (CLEP) o Students who are a part of the College Level Examination Program and successfully complete the appropriate tests will be awarded credit at UI. o For specifics on test score minimums and credits please visit http://www.registrar.uidaho.edu/transfer-guides/ap-credit.html Other Exams o Students who achieve certain scores on the following tests may receive Advanced Placement credits: SAT, ACT, COMPASS. (See http://www.registrar.uidaho.edu/transfer-guides/ap-credit.html for specifics) o In the specific case of English 101, credit will be awarded after the successful completion of English 102. Credit opportunities after enrollment: Challenged Courses (credit by examination) o A student may challenge a lecture course and associated lab by completing the following steps Obtain an application to challenge a course from the Registrar’s office or online at http://www.registrar.uidaho.edu/forms/Challenge.pdf The student must obtain permission to challenge the course from the course instructor, the administrator of the department in which the course is offered and from his/her dean. After filling out the application and having it signed by the appropriate authorities, the student must then pay an application fee of $35 to Student Accounts/Cashiers Office plus a fee of $25 per credit challenged. (The per credit fee will only be charged if the student successfully challenges the course.) After the student turns in the form, the Registrar will validate the student’s eligibility to challenge the course and notify both the student and the instructor accordingly. The student must obtain a score of a C or better to pass the class and obtain credit. However, passing grades will marked be as a “P” on the student’s transcript and will not be included in the GPA calculations If a student is not successful no record is made on their transcript. Restrictions: The results of a challenged course must be forwarded to the Registrar’s office no later than the beginning of the last week of the semester. No examination to challenge a course may be taken in the last two weeks of the academic session. B_ADPLUGF8 Students are not permitted to challenge a prerequisite course after they have completed the advanced course. Credit in courses offered by the College of Law may not be obtained with this procedure. Experiential Learning Credit o Students have the opportunity to gain credit for upper and/or lower division courses if they can demonstrate that they have university-level knowledge or competence gained in work and/or life situations outside of the university. For example: knowledge/competence gained in business, industry, government, and community agencies: or through travel and private study, or while enrolled at a proprietary or non-accredited institution. o First the student must obtain a form for petitioning for Experiential Learning Credit from the Registrar’s Office or online at http://www.registrar.uidaho.edu/forms/ExperCred.pdf o The student must petition his or her academic dean and departmental advisor and provide them with appropriate evidence that his/her achievements warrant evaluation. (This would also be a good time to have the dean and advisor sign the petition. A signature from the dean/advisor only indicates support for the petition and not approval to receive credits.) o After completing the petition and creating a portfolio that contains the evidence of the student’s achievements, the student must pay a $35 processing fee to Student Accounts/Cashiers Window and then turn in the aforementioned paperwork to the Registrar’s Office. o The Registrar will then convene a UCC subcommittee and inform the student of the committee’s final decision. o If the student’s petition is granted and student must then pay $25 per credit awarded. o The awarded credits will be added to the student’s transcript as a “P” and will not count in GPA calculations. Vertically Related Course Credit o This type of credit applies to foreign language credits. If a student bypasses a lower level course and enrolls in a higher vertically related course and gets a grade of a C or better he/she is eligible to receive a “P” for the lower level class. (e.g., bypass SPAN 101 and enroll in SPAN 201) o The student must obtain and fill out a Vertically-Related Credit Application from the Registrar’s Office or online at http://www.registrar.uidaho.edu/forms/VerticalCredit.pdf. o After the student pays the $35 processing fee he/she may turn in the application. o If the student is granted credit they will be charged $25 per credit awarded. Vertically Related Course Credit from Other Accredited Institutions o If a student has been awarded credit for a higher course at another university by bypassing a lower related class, but has not received credit for the lower class, they will be granted said credit after the completion of a yet higher vertically related course at UI.
