Driver Education Class Policies Teachers do not give grades-STUDENTS EARN THEIR GRADES Grading Policy: This course is a pass/fail course and a graduation requirement (classroom only). The classroom grade is 100% based on the driver education workbook, unit test and classroom participation. The behind-the-wheel grade is based on 12 lessons, with each lesson evaluated on a scale of 1-5. You must pass each lesson with a 4 or 5 to move onto the next lesson. Within each behind-the-wheel lesson are 14 skills that will be evaluated on a scale of 1-5. Points: Your grade will be the result of cumulative points from homework assignments, test, quizzes and classroom participation. Homework is due on the day after it is assigned unless another due date is given. The class moves at a pace of one chapter every one and one half days, so every other day your workbook will be corrected and a quiz will occur every three or four chapters. Assignments turned in one day late will lose 20% off total points possible, two days late will receive half credit, three days or more will fail. The workbook grade is based on 10pts per chapter. For every two questions that are missed in the workbook, minus one point up to ten points. An example: chp 4 workbook, I miss 6 questions, my score for chapter 4 would be 7/10. You must maintain a 80% average in the classroom and behind-the-wheel to meet the state requirement. If you miss 10 classroom days, authorized and/or unauthorized you will be dropped from the course. (please note – lab days are not considered classroom days and will not count towards the 10 absent days. However, the school and dept policy will still apply to your attendance) To meet the graduation requirement you must have a 60% or higher in the classroom. Please note that if your grade drops below 80% you will have 10 days to get the grade back up. If after 10 days your grade is below 80%, you will not drive until all work is done and turned in. Final: You will be assigned four projects during the second quarter of this class. The projects must be completed in order pass this course. You will have time during lab class days to work on these projects (don’t waste your time). The projects are; insurance, purchasing a car, car maint. and planning a trip. If you do not complete all the projects you will fail the course and will have to repeat the classroom portion of the class the next semester. Excused Absence: It is your responsibility to find out what you missed and get the make-up work and material. If you are absent on the day of a quiz, you are responsible to get to the testing center within 5 school days of your absent day. If the quiz is not made up within 5 school days, you will lose 10% off your final score per day past the 5th day. Unexcused Absence: If you have an unexcused absent on the day of a quiz, examination, or due date for a project, you will lose 20% of total points possible. The assignment will be due on the day of your return. You choose your own behavior; thus, you choose the consequences that accompany the behavior. Expectations and participation points evaluation: 1. Show courtesy, respect, helpfulness, and consideration to all students and the teacher. 2. Be in your seat when the bell rings and stay in your seat until the bell rings.
