PARENT ORGANIZATION
When you enroll your children in Fox Hollow Elementary School, you
automatically become a member of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The
purpose of the organization is to promote the welfare of the children and to
promote understanding among parents, teachers and school officials.
The business of the PTO is conducted in monthly board meetings. All
parents and teachers are welcome and encouraged to attend. PTO meetings are
held on the third Wednesdays form 6:30-7:30pm. Please contact your PTO
President if you have any questions or concerns.
SCHOOL VISITORS
All visitors are required to enter through the front doors of the school
and report to the office. They are required to sign in, show an ID and receive a
visitor’s badge or sticker to wear until they leave the building. Students from
other schools, or friends of Fox Hollow Elementary School students, are not
allowed to visit during the school day. Parents are always welcome and may visit
at any time; however, teachers are expected to supervise their students, so they
cannot visit with parents during school hours. If you wish to talk with the teacher,
please schedule a conference.
PARKING
When visiting school, please use the school parking lot and park in a
designated space. The two Auction VIP parking spaces are for those families
who purchase the spot at the school auction and are theirs alone to use
everyday, twenty-four hours a day. Parents are asked not to stop or park in the
fire lane, the crosswalks or bike lanes. Parking is not allowed in the service drive
or bus lane.
TELEPHONE/ADDRESS CHANGES
Please notify the school office immediately if there is a change in your
address, telephone number, babysitter or person to contact in an emergency.
This information is very important in case your child becomes ill or injured.
BICYCLES/SCOOTERS
Students in grades 1-5 may ride a bike or scooter to school. Bikes and
scooters must be walked on the school grounds. Bikes should be placed in the
bike racks and locked. Students may not ride bikes or scooters during recess
and/or playground activities. Scooters will be stored in student cubbies. The
school cannot be responsible for bikes brought to school. Kindergartners may
not bring bikes or scooters to school.
SUPERVISION
Outside lineup begins at 8:30 and crosswalk coverage begins at
8:25 am, so please DO NOT send students to school before that time. After
school, crosswalk coverage is from 3:30-3:45 pm. Students should leave the
school grounds promptly after dismissal and must go home before coming back
to play.
DRESS
School clothing should be functional and reflect the attitude of the
students toward their jobs – learning. School personnel have confidence in the
judgment of the parents in the selection of clothing that is appropriate for school.
Students may wear shorts, but they must come to mid-thigh. No halter tops,
spaghetti straps, bare midriffs or “muscle shirts” are allowed. Clothing with
inappropriate printed messages is not allowed. Neither boys nor girls are
permitted to wear hats in the building. During changing and cold weather,
children should have warm clothing since they spend a part of everyday outside
playing. During Physical Education classes, tennis shoes are required.
ATTENDANCE
The importance of regular school attendance cannot be overemphasized. Children should be in school when they are physically able.
Although some assignments can be made up, the interaction between student
and teacher is irreplaceable. Students are expected to arrive at school at
8:30 am. The first bell rings at 8:40 am. Classes begin at 8:45 am. Students
should go directly to their class lines outside the designated doors without going
through the school. Any student arriving at school after 8:45 am should enter
through the front doors and report to the office before going to class.
School dismisses at 3:30 pm. Students should go directly home. If a
student has to stay after school, the student or teacher will call parents.
KINDERGARTEN HOURS
Morning kindergarten hours are from 8:45 am – 11:35 am
Afternoon kindergarten hours are from 12:45 am – 3:30 pm.
Kindergarteners should line up on the playground near the mobile.
REPORTING ABSENCES
Please call the Attendance Line at 720-886-8795 by 8:55 am to report
your child’s absence or if they will be late arriving to school. School staff will
contact parents of absent students who have not been reported.
REQUEST TO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY
If it becomes necessary to pick your child up from school during the
school day, please send a note to the teacher informing him/her of the time you
plan to pick the child up. You will need to come to the office to sign your child
out. The office will check identification and call the classroom teacher. The
student will remain in class until the parent arrives. This procedure is designed
to protect your child and to hold classroom interruptions to a minimum.
WEATHER EMERGENCIES
Inclement Weather: When early morning weather and road
conditions or other emergency situations are deemed hazardous, the Cherry
Creek School District will announce closures and delays through the media.
Every local radio and television station will carry the updates. Any changes will
also be posted to a link on the district’s website (www.ccsd.k12.co.us) by
5:00 am. You may want to bookmark this address for easy access.
Please do not call the school. Weather-related schedule decisions will
be made by geographic area. Please call the Southeast Area Hotline at
720-554-4701. Information for the hotline will be updated by 5:00 am daily.
Delayed Start/School Closure: If you see that the Cherry Creek
School District has called a delayed start for schools, Fox Hollow will start class
60 minutes later than usual. That means that school will begin at 9:45 am.
Please do not have your student come to school before 9:35 am. District school
buses will pick students up 60 minutes later than usual. Afternoon kindergarten
buses will pick up students at the regular time. Dismissal time remains 3:30 pm.
In the event of a school closure, all field trips, before and after school daycare
programs and special school events will be canceled.
Fire/Tornado Safety: Fox Hollow Elementary will conduct periodic fire
and tornado drills. In the event of a weather emergency during the school day,
please remember that our first concern is the safety of your children, and we
need your cooperation. Students will not be dismissed at 3:30 pm in the event of
inclement weather. A yellow flag will be displayed in the event of delayed
dismissal. All students will be released when the weather improves or the
warning is lifted.
Please take a few minutes with your children and develop an
emergency plan of your own. Make sure he/she knows how to get into your
house if you are not home, or which neighbor’s home is a safe place to go.
MEDICATION
Medicine: Most medications can be administered before or after school. In the
rare case where medicine must be brought to school, please be aware that the
school nurse is required by district policy and state law to have a “Permission for
Medication” form on file, the doctor’s signed order and the parent’s signature.
The medicine must be brought to school in the original container, labeled with the
student’s name, the name of the medication, the dosage and the time and
number of days it must be administered.
Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated. Our school nurse’s
license is at risk if she deviates from strict compliance with this policy. The
various Permission for Medication forms are included in the first-day packet or
are available from the school nurse.
LOST AND FOUND
A lost and found is maintained in the galleria. Items that accumulate
will be displayed on track off weeks during the course of the year. Unclaimed
items will be given to charitable organizations.
HOMEWORK
Your child’s homework will depend on their grade level. There are
several reasons for homework:
o
A direct line of communication is established between home and
school which helps parents to be involved with the student’s progress
on a first-hand basis.
o
The development of study habits and self-discipline are needed by all
of our students.
o
Learning is a life-long habit that should occur in a variety of situations,
including both at home and at school.
FOX HOLLOW
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
PARENT HANDBOOK
WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL LEARNER?
Research shows that students who do well in school believe that their
own efforts, not luck, are responsible for their success. Helping your child
develop the skills and attitudes they need to achieve in school is one of the most
important things you can do for them. Successful students want to learn; they
have the ability to pay attention and to understand and remember facts and
ideas.
KIDS’ CAFÉ
Breakfast: Served between 8:15 and 8:40 am and may include a
choice of juice, cereal, toast, sweet rolls, etc. The cost of breakfast is $1.30. No
advance purchase is necessary.
Lunch: Students may purchase a hot lunch from the menu, which
includes milk or juice, or they may bring a brown-bag lunch. Children who prefer
to bring their own lunches may buy milk or juice. The cost of lunch is $2.40.
Breakfast and lunch are served on all regular days of school. No
meals are served on shortened days.
Buying Lunch and Breakfast Credits: Please send money to pay for
school meals in advance of need. When a student is down to just enough money
for one more lunch, or is completely out of money, they will receive a “last lunch”
stamp on their hand. Please send money immediately. The cafeteria manager
keeps a small reserve of cash to help students who forget their lunch money.
This is a LOAN to be paid back promptly. Please impress upon your student the
importance of keeping you informed when their money is running low. Any lunch
credits left at the end of one school year will carry over to the next.
Please send a check to the Kids’ Café made payable to Cherry
Creek Schools at the beginning of the school year and each time your
child’s credits run short.
NEWSLETTER
The official school communication bulletin, Fox Tales, will be posted to
the Fox Hollow website every three weeks. The newsletter contains important
dates and information about school activities. Please refer to it to stay up-to-date
on your child’s life at school.
DISCIPLINE
We believe the entire school staff is responsible for developing an
atmosphere which facilitates a safe, cooperative and emotionally secure learning
environment. Our three school-wide rules are: Be Respectful, Be Responsible,
Be Safe. These three rules are reinforced throughout the school in classrooms,
playground, café and hallways. Parents, students and staff need to work
cooperatively to teach the students to be self-disciplined and responsible for their
own behavior. Bully Proofing skills are integral at Fox Hollow Elementary School.
PARTNERS IN EXCELLENCE
Parents and schools share the same goal: helping children succeed at learning.
To reach that goal, it is important to work in partnership with the school.
o
Make a point of visiting your child’s classroom early in the year.
o
Don’t be reluctant to ask questions about school policy or about your
child’s progress.
o
Read and respond to school newsletters and announcements.
o
Support the conduct policy plan at home.
o
Volunteer to help out with school programs and projects.
o
Contact the school about any problem you think may affect your child’s
learning or behavior.
Together, we can do what neither of us can do alone.
