POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Director of Youth and College Ministry First United Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville, Arkansas www.fupcfay.org General Description Prayerfully initiate, lead, and coordinate dynamic, fun, and Christ-centered youth and college ministries that motivate youth and young adults to know, love, and serve God through Jesus Christ. Build, train, and support volunteer leadership teams of college students, adults, and older youth to plan, coordinate and co-lead youth and college ministry and outreach. We’re Praying for a Proactive Leader with: 1. A love for youth and young adults and a shepherd’s heart. 2. A mature faith consistent with the Reformed Christian tradition and compatible with mainline Christian church ministry, values, and priorities. 3. The personal confidence and warmth to go onto campuses (junior and senior high schools and the University of Arkansas), reach out to students on their own terms, and instill the desire to participate in church ministries and get to know Jesus. 4. Volunteer or paid experience in youth, campus and/or camping ministry leadership. 5. Relational and listening skills, interpersonal sensitivity, and the ability to recruit, organize, and inspire volunteers. 6. A commitment to involving youth and young adults in serving others, and in mission to the community and world. 7. A winsome sense of humor and fun, combined with a passion for teaching and forming youth and young adults to be committed followers of Jesus. 8. As many of the following as possible: music leadership ability, a love of sports, experience in leading outdoor activities, competence in social media. 9. A Bachelor’s degree by May 2013. Specific Duties and Responsibilities 1. Youth Ministry a. Cultivate nurturing, supportive relationships with all church youth. b. Plan and lead exciting and involving weekly youth gatherings for middle school, junior high, and senior high youth. c. Teach Christian faith, worship, and service on Sunday mornings. d. Plan and lead regular youth retreats, camps, conferences, mission trips, and service activities. 2. College Ministry a. Build supportive relationships with college students to grow a vital college ministry. b. Work with a leadership team to plan and lead weekly events and mission outreach. c. Interface intentionally and collaboratively with United Campus Ministry. 3. Church involvement, including participation in worship, church committees, church family activities, and connecting and interacting with parents and families of youth and college students as needed and as able. Salary and Benefits This is a full-time position. Continuing education ($500 annually), 2 weeks of annual vacation, and churchfunded membership in a group healthcare plan (or a retirement benefit) are provided.
