Golden Book Assembly
Thank you to parents who came to Year 4’s Golden Book Assembly. The children have worked really hard on their World
War II project and it was great to see their work displayed and discussed in such an informative way.
‘Starting Out’ and ‘Moving On’ Workshops for Parents
We would like to invite parents of children starting in our Nursery and Reception classes in September and parents of Year
5 and 6 children to two free workshops being held by Lancashire Adult Learning at our school on Thursday, 25 June from
1.15 to 3.15 p.m. – more information to follow after half term.
Beacon Fell
On Wednesday pupils in Year 3 and 4 had an exciting visit to Beacon Fell where they enjoyed orienteering, problem solving
and pond dipping. The weather was kind to them and they came back having had a great time. My thanks to Mrs Mellor for
organising the trip and to all those parents who helped and provided transport to and from Beacon Fell.
Mini Beast Madness
Yesterday the children in Foundation gave us all a fantastic time for both pupils and parents with their topic on Mini Beast
Madness. My thanks to Mrs Burton and her Foundation team for all their hard work and enthusiasm but poor dress sense
in organising such a wonderful occasion! Also thank you to all the parents/grandparents who attended and supported the
event. They raised £83.20 which will be spent on equipment for the Foundation Unit.
Dinner Money
For your information dinner money for next term will be £57.80 which takes you up to the end of the summer term. Please
send in all monies/cheques in a named envelope (£1.70 per day / £8.50 per week). Just a reminder for children in our
nursery class staying for a packed lunch, there is a 50p per day supervision charge. (Please send in to nursery in a named
envelope)
PTFA Jewellery Recycling
After the half term holiday we will be sending home envelopes to ask you to donate any unwanted gold, silver, costume
jewellery or watches (adults or children’s). They can be damaged, broken and incomplete items, including odd earrings
and broken chains. We would be grateful if during the holidays you might be able to ask relatives or friends to sort out any
of the above items that may help. Each envelope that is returned will be placed into a draw to win an MP3 player.
Walking Bus
Mrs Berry and Mrs Faraday would like to thank colleagues and parents for their continued support and help with assisting
the children up to school on the Walking Bus. The bus will continue to operate after half term, meeting from 8.30 a.m. at
Somerfield and leaving at 8.50 a.m. prompt. Please feel free to come and join us!
Class/Team Photographs
The deadline for returning photographs was last Wednesday but any orders not returned must be sent in by the morning of
Tuesday, 2 June.
Sainsburys and Tesco Vouchers
The last vouchers for Sainsburys and Tesco will be issued on 3 and 7 June so please hand in any vouchers you may have
so we can put in our orders for school equipment. Thank you
KS2 Sports Day
The date of the Junior Sports day is to change to Wednesday, 1 July at 1.30pm as some of our classes are having the
opportunity of going to Longridge High School as part of sports week – we are sorry to inconvenience you with this change
but the opportunity provided by the High School for some of our pupils is too good to miss.
Sports Week
Mr Smith has organised an action packed Sports Week from Monday, 29th June – Friday 3rd July. The aim of the week is for
as many of the children to take part in and try different sports. Unfortunately, some changes have had to be made to the
diary dates sent out earlier this term so that children do not miss out on recently confirmed events.
Monday 29th June
The week will start with an opening ceremony in which the whole school will take part in the Rock FM Wake and Shake
(schools across Lancashire are hoping to break a World Record!). Following this, the Deepdale Duck and Longridge Mayor
have accepted our invitation to officially open the week. The Dance Talent club will perform a routine and classes will show
off their sports themed flags. Parents are invited to attend 9.00 – 9.45.
House matches will also take place: Football, Netball, Rounders and Hockey. Children in Years 1-4 will receive free Golf
coaching.
Tuesday 30th June
The school will have an Athletics focus with most of the children being able to achieve their best scores earning awards as
part of the English Schools’ Athletics Scheme. Children who perform well will be invited to represent the school on Friday in
an inter-school Athletics Festival.
Wednesday 1st July
Children in Years 5 and 6 will receive free Golf coaching in the morning. The Junior Sports Day has been moved from the
afternoon of Thursday 2nd July to Wednesday 1st July.
Thursday 2nd July
The combined Infant and Foundation Unit Sports Day will take place in the morning at 9.30am.
Children from Years 5 and 6 will be at Longridge High School from 10am – 12pm with Years 2-4 between 1pm and 3pm.
They will take part in Rugby, Badminton, Athletics and Hockey activities.
Friday 3rd July
The pupil council are organising a fun run in which pupils are invited to run and dress in the style of a sport. In the
afternoon, chosen pupils will be representing the school at the Ribble Valley Athletics Festival at Clitheroe Grammar
School.
Please note that all events are subject to decent weather and may be cancelled. If you have any questions or queries,
please see Mr Smith (Organiser).
Midsummer Fair
We would like to invite you to our annual Midsummer Fair which will be held on Friday, 19 June from 3.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
There will be plenty of stalls, a barbeque, refreshments and football and netball tournaments to come and see.
We would also appreciate any offers of help for manning stalls – this needn’t be for the duration of the Fair – an hour would
help us. Please contact the school office if you are able to help. Many thanks.
Non-Uniform Days
In support of our Summer Fair on Friday, 19 June, we are having a number of non-uniform days to help donations for the
Fair.
Friday, 5 June
Donations for the colour stall which is ‘red’ - any red items!
Friday, 12 June
Donations for the raffle/tombola
Thursday, 18 June
Donations for the cake stall
School finishes today at 3.30pm and we return on Tuesday, 2 June.
Yours faithfully
