Håkan Eriksson was born in Mjölby Sweden 1961, where he also went to school up to
grade 12, during the years 1968-1980.
After military service, 1980-1981, Mr. Eriksson entered Linköping University in Sweden
where he received a MS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1985, after a one year
scholarship at Stanford University, California, USA.
1985-1986 Håkan Eriksson stayed at the department of Electrical Engineering at
Linköping University, studying channel coding, with respect to VLSI implementations.
In 1986 Mr. Eriksson was asked to join the research unit at Ericsson Radio Systems AB,
Stockholm and during the years 1987-1990 his main activity was within the GSM
standardization as technical expert and member of the Swedish delegation. Håkan
Eriksson became manager, of the Radio Network Research section 1990 and in 1992
he got promoted to manager of the Systems Research and Development department
responsible for future evolution of present digital cellular systems as well as next
generation wideband systems, WCDMA.
After what had now become 9 years in the research area Mr. Eriksson moved to
Ericsson Research Canada in Montreal in 1995 where he was offered the position as
Director, Systems Design and Management, with overall system responsibility for
Ericsson TDMA systems. In 1996, he was appointed General Manager, Systems Design
and Management, Ericsson Research Canada, with some added responsibilities, mainly
in the area of customer involvement.
Upon returning to Sweden in August 1997, Håkan Eriksson took the position as Vice
President, Business and Technology Development, at the business unit Cellular
Systems American Standards, with the mission to drive the technical development for
the Business Unit, mainly the GSM/TDMA EDGE convergence.
In the autumn 1998, all research activities in Ericsson were organized into one unit
named Ericsson Research. Mr. Eriksson was asked to lead this organization and in
November 1998, he was appointed Vice President and General Manager, Ericsson
Research, and in the summer 2000 also appointed Vice President, Research, Ericsson,
with overall responsibilty for all research within the Ericsson Group.
Following a reorganization in the Spring of 2003, Håkan Eriksson was appointed Vice
President & General Manager, Research & Development, responsible for all major
development within the Ericsson Group, including the Radio Network, Core Network and
Service Network as well as Ericsson Research.
Currently, Håkan Eriksson is Senior Vice President, Research & Development and Chief
Technology Officer of the Ericsson Group, reporting to the CEO.
