Consolidated News for July 2010 2nd July 2010 Lions Club donated 30 numbers of Bed sheets. Parents meeting conducted on 3rd July 2010, twenty one parents presented and shared the information. 5th July 2010, awareness cultural street stage show regarding the disable issues conducted in Avalurpet Village - with the help of Vazhndhu Kattuvom – Community Disable Facilitators – Volunteers. The staff Mrs. Chitra – Care Giver resigned the job due to her personal problem from 6th of July 2010 onwards. The Physiotherapist Ms. Kanchana looking after the responsibilities of Mrs. Chitra and training the new staff team members. Ms. Malarkodi, from Avalurpet Village - with educational qualification Higher Secondary Education and Certificate in Physical Education. She appointed as a caregiver from 9th of July 2010. The fruitful results after signing MoU of “Give India” online listing company to raise funds to serve the needy neglected deprived children – results Rs. 39,900/- (Thirty Nine Thousands Nine Hundreds) received on 10th July 2010 to support three differently abled children to provide the prescribed facilities for the period of one year. Mr. Sumit Choudhary donated Rs. 27,200/- (Twenty Seven Thousands and Two Hundreds) to support 2 Mentally Challenged children to provide the prescribed facilities to the needy children. Mr. Anil Saxena donated Rs. 12,700/- (Twelve Thousands and Seven Hundreds) to take care of one Cerebrally Palsied child to ensure the prescribed facilities for the period of one year. The volunteer Mr. Shridhar and his daughter Ms. Praveena from Mumbai visited our Learning Center. They visited our new building set up discussed about the children and their development. They are already extending their regular support to our children and they express their interest to extend their support to something else through their friends circle. Shanthi, 12 years, Female, from Melmalayanoor Village came with the complaints of Cerebrally Palsied and Mentally Challenged. The parents Kuppan / Lakshmi, they are the agriculture labors; the child has two elder sisters and two younger brother. This is the third child of the family, during the child hood the child got affected with high grade fever for 8 days, during the 9th day the child got epileptic convulsion. The parents treated the child first at the nearby hospital, German Hospital, Chetpet, and then they took the child to Baby Hospital, Egmore, Chennai. They drop the treatment for two years; then again they went to Baby Hospital, Chennai and learnt the therapy. After this the child is under the normal scheme of education, she completed 7th standard, but the parents are found less improvements. So they came to our Learning Center for the better results. To develop the child and to fulfill the needs the child admitted in our Learning Center from 12th July 2010. As per the Government norms and guidance we applied for the Recognition for the Special School. The application forwarded through Differently Abled Welfare Officer on 15th July 2010. The needed scrutinize visit by District Differently Abled Welfare Officer, Villupuram on 27th July 2010. Ms. Mary Joshi from Sevalampoondi Village – with the educational qualification Higher Secondary Education and Certificate in Physical Education. She appointed as a caregiver from 18th of July 2010. The Government Primary Health Center, Avalurpet, Siddha Doctor, Dr. Malliga visited our Learning Center, conducted medical health camp on 19th July 2010. She examined the children and provided the needed Siddha medicine to the children according to the need of the children. She assured that she will extend her support for the continuous medical treatment to improve the children. Soundhariya, 16 Years, Female, Avalurpet Village came with the complaints of Mentally Challenged required our Learning Center Assistance on 19th July 2010. Due to the vehicle lack of space, the girl put into the waiting list for admission. We approached the President Mr. John N. Burnap, La Ferme Des Crocodiles, French volunteer Non – Government Organization for the help of needy children in India – we approached and put forth various options for the stable development of our Learning Centre. On 21st July we received a commitment letter stating that they can contribute 2542 € to purchase the land to permanently establish our Learning Center or to purchase of medical / physiotherapy / toys / kitchen / furniture – equipments. We are applying to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, with the commitment letter from La Ferme Des Crocodiles to obtain the FCRA prior permission to utilize the money for the foresight reasons. Awareness cultural Street Stage Play According to the Census 2001, there are 2.19 CRORE people with disabilities in India who constitute 2.13 per cent of the total population. This includes persons with visual, hearing, speech, locomotor and mental disabilities. Seventy five per cent of persons with disabilities live in rural areas - The people living in the rural areas are mostly with the difficulties, Poverty, Illiteracy; traditional believes, etc., Due to this the appropriate medical treatment and approaches of the physically challenged are lacking in the rural areas. Physically challenged children are treated with local inexperienced hoax doctors due to the parent’s innocence, lack of accessing the appropriate hospitals medical centers for the appropriate treatment in time. The stage street play executed in Avalurpet Village on 5th July 2010. The venue is Avalurpet – Bus Stand – Peak floating population in and around villages is gathering in this place. The Stage Street Play financially supported by Mr. Naresh Sepuri, Supporter of the “Give India” - Online Donation NGO. The performance implementation is Vazhndhu Kattuvom, Tiruvannamalai Village Level Community Differently Abled Person Facilitators. The venue and the time are informed to the concern police station and the necessary permission obtained. The village president and the VIP’s are invited to take part the awareness street stage play. Our aim is to utilize the available village resources for the best results. We rented two bullock carts to form the stage. The stage assembled out of the two bullock cart, the sound system MIC and Speaker are rented. The volunteer Village Level Community Differently Abled Person Facilitators - Vazhndhu Kattuvom - Tiruvannamalai are expressed their performance about the Causes of the Disability, Types of Disabilities, Rehabilitative Possibilities, Available Government Schemes, Available Non Government institutions providing the rehabilitation measures and Preventive possibilities. This entire message is carried out by a drama. Paper news about the awareness program The stage street drama started by 6.30 pm., on 1st July 2010. The play started with the concept that due to the relative marriage and home delivery cause the birth of the differently challenged child. The child was not cried after the birth for which the relatives treated with fire coal (burnt in the foot). After the child growth the parents are not treated, they tied with the rope. When ever they got little money they treated with the local hoax doctor, the parents are not taking the child to the public places, the parents are not giving care as equal to the normal child. Finally the volunteer Village Level Community Differently Abled Person Facilitators intervention and counseling session helps the child to find the special learning centre for the rehabilitation procedures. The street play brings out the real situation of the village living differently abled children life as a portrayal. The play concluded by 9.30 pm., with the satisfaction of making aware about the disability issues for around 500 floating population. The volunteers are very well planned and performed the concept, the volunteers placed all their learning regarding the disabilities, the Pre Natal Care, Peri Natal Care, Post Natal Care, the needed intervention, equipments, available institutions for the rehabilitation measures and the preventive methods are explained clearly to the Public Mass in the easy understandable language. Video coverage done to record the stage street play, this play back of this cassette will help other village people to understand the concept of the street stage play. The public mass appreciated the performance and the concept of the play. appreciated the volunteer participants by offering them the towels. They The volunteer are transported to the village by the rented vehicle, the costume and make up expenses, the bullock cart stage, the mic, speakers and sound system, video coverage and the night dinner provided to the volunteers. School Recognition Initiatives The new initiatives and approaches of Government are insisting to acquire recognition to run the special schools - As per the Government norms and guidance we applied for the Recognition for the Special School. The application forwarded through Differently Abled Welfare Officer on 15th July 2010. As per the government norms already we have obtained the required certificates (for the PWD Registration). In addition 25,000/caution deposit done in the Bank for the Learning Centre. One month advance salary of the staff of Learning Centre Rs. 20,000/- deposited in the Bank. Obtaining the recognition will fulfill the requirements of the Government norms. This will help in future there is a possibilities to receive the maintenance grand for the children, staff salaries, rent of the learning center and to acquire the government schemes and facilities. The needed scrutinize visit by District Differently Abled Welfare Officer, Villupuram on 27th July 2010. He visited all the activities of our Learning center; he enquired the information about the activities of our Learning Center. The District Differently Abled Welfare Officer verified the following registers - Staff Attendance register, Children Attendance register, Parents Meeting Feed Back register, Visitor register, Medical Camp register and Children Admission register. He recorded his visit and the verification by signed in the above registers. Siddha Medical Camp During our Learning Center children visit for the medical treatment to the Primary Health Center, Avalurpet Dr. Malliga, Siddha Medical Practitioner, Avalurpet, got introduced. She shows good interest for our children’s development and medical treatment. We invited her to our learning center to work out the development the Children of our Learning Center. She accepted the task, visited our Learning Center, and examined our Children. Totally 30 children from our Learning Center are examined by the doctor and the needed medicines provided for the health development and required attitude development. Parents Meeting The periodical parents meeting to discuss about the development and the needed measures need to take in their houses, and the present development status of the children are discussed. The bed sheets provided by the Lions Club of Avalurpet are distributed to the parents. Repeatedly we are insisting the parents to maintaining the hygiene and uniform maintenance. eg., we are providing sufficient uniform and dress materials 8 sets of stitched materials - to keep the children good look and hygiene, We found that Arjun’s parents are using these dress materials are utilized by the younger children of the family. So we inform them to maintain it properly and utilize for this children. Regarding the self help group discussed. Self Help Group Meeting We gathered the parents on 17th July to discuss about the self help group growth. We have the accumulated sum of Rs. 11,000/- inclusive the monthly subscription and the reimbursement of loan. We inform the group to select the second set of borrower from the Kalki group. The mother of Kalai applied for this to buy a Bullock. For the second self help group we are not able to open the self help group bank account. We planned to open a savings bank account operate as a joint account, this account will operate by the selected two members, at present 5 parents are paying regularly the subscription. Birthday Celebration Sharmila Birthday and Vignesh Birthday (25th) celebrated on 28th of July by cutting the cakes and distributed to their friends in our learning center. The children felt happy and enjoyed the celebration. Medical Treatment Balaji got affected with Fever on 12th of July, Arjun got affected with Diarrhea for which consulted with the doctor and the needed medical support provided. Manjula got fever on 16th & 23rd July 2010 treated with Primary Health Center and with private physician, Avalurpet. Gokul had abscess in head and Ajai Guru had fever on 22nd of July treated and needed medical attention given. Karthi had burnt wound in the right leg little finger – happened in their house, which started infection treated and needed medicines provided. Additional Support to Children & Family The children having mal nutrition and in need of supplement support are Lokeswaran, Gowtham, Arjun, Manjula, Vinitha, Poovarasan, Gokul, Palani, Venda, Lakshmi, Vignesh and Parameswari are provided with supplementary health drinks. Kalai is provided with the special self help group monthly subscription; we paid her from our Learning Center, the remuneration Rs. 200/- paid for her vocational activity. Parents / Visitor – Visit 22 Parents are visited our Learning center in July 2010. They visited and got the information about their child’s present improvements. The District Differently Abled Welfare Officer, Villupuram and Ortho Technician, Villupuram are visited as a scrutiny visit - as an action of our recognition application. They informed that for Gokul and Sharmila Rs. 500/- monthly Maintenance Grand (MG) sanctioned by the Government. Local regular supporter Mr. Shridhar and his Daughter Ms. Praveena visited and had information about our learning center. Local Contribution New president of Lions Club, Avalurpet, take charge. He extends the support to our children by distributing the bed sheets to our Learning Center children on 2nd July 2010. The Bed sheets are distributed to the parents on 3rd July. On 8th July Sharmila parents contributed Rs. 250/- for the vehicle running expenses. Deepak parents contributed 10 liters on 15th for the cooking purpose, on 28th Abishek’s parents contributed Rs. 600/- for the two month vehicle running expenses. The acupressure treatment volunteers Mr. S. Subramanian contributed Rs. 950/- on 5th July to provide one time food to our Learning Center children. The amount is contributed in the memory of her daughter demise on 4th July. Vazhndhu Kattuvom CDF Ms. Sathya, Mr. Rajesh and Mr. Thangaraj are jointly provided casual readymade dress wears to 5 children’s of our Learning Center. On 8th July Ms. Sathya distributed sweets to share the happiness on the day of her birthday. Mr. Shridharan, Mumbai contributed Rs. 500/- on 10th July to provide snacks to the children. Mr. Babu sponsored the mid time food to share the joy of his son’s birthday on 22nd July. Last month the volunteer Mrs. T.S. Visalakshi relative of Mrs. Sumathi Viswanathan, bestowed the Uniform materials and the stitching charges. This month we got ready the dresses and distributed the dresses to all the children.
