Reporting student achievement requirements for government sector schools for Foundation to Year 10 in 2012-13 Reporting student achievement Student Reporting 2013 Schools are required to issue report cards to parents twice a year and to offer interviews to parents to discuss their child’s progress The mandatory components for reporting to parents in 2013 remain as per the current requirements. Updated information (June 2013) The latest advice and additional details are available via DEECD circulars, including: S108-2013 Student Reporting against AusVELS in 2013 S179-2013 AusVELS and Student Reports The DEECD has also published information to explain reports to parents/carers: 2013 Student Reports – Information for Parents/Carers Specific information for student reporting for the new 4 subjects: English Student achievement will be reported against the Australian Curriculum: English strands of Reading and Viewing, Writing and Speaking and Listening as included in AusVELS. During 2012 six monthly progression points will be developed. Mathematics Student achievement will be reported against the strands of Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability. During 2012 the VCAA will revise the current Australian Curriculum: Mathematics achievement standards to enable a more targeted form of student reporting. These revised achievement standards will be included in AusVELS. During 2012 six monthly progression points will be developed. Science During 2012 the VCAA will modify the current Australian Curriculum: Science achievement standards to provide achievement standards written at six level intervals, that is, each achievement standard will nominally apply to two year levels of learning, as is the case in the current VELS. This will provide schools with more flexibility in their curriculum planning and will enable reporting to more accurately reflect the teaching program. These revised achievement standards will be included in AusVELS. During 2012 six monthly progression points will be developed. Reporting against the achievement standards will commence in Year 3. History Student achievement will be reported against the AusVELS Humanities standards which include the Australian Curriculum: History achievement standards from Year 3. During 2012 six monthly progression points will be developed. Student reporting will continue as per current arrangements for the remaining VELS discipline domains and the interdisciplinary Learning and Physical, Personal and Social Learning strands. Updated June 2013 Student reports for Years Prep to 2 will continue as per current arrangements for English, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, The Arts and Interpersonal Development.
