Safeguarding Children Policy
These are the Safeguarding children policies for the University of Birmingham Junior Programme (The
Programme).
1. Introduction
1.1. Objective
The protection of children is of fundamental importance to the Government’s policy agenda. The Programme
is committed to providing safeguarding measures to protect those children associated with the club.
2. Policy
2.1. Safety
2.1.1.The welfare of the child is paramount.
2.1.2.All children without exception have the right to protection from abuse regardless of gender,
ethnicity, disability, sexuality, or beliefs.
2.2. Endorsement
2.2.1.The policy is endorsed and approved by the Committee of The Programme.
2.3. Welfare Officer
2.3.1.The Programme will appoint a Welfare Officer to ensure that the policy is up to date with
government policy and to ensure that the policy is adhered to.
2.4. Recruitment and Vetting
2.4.1.The Programme is committed to the safe recruitment, selection, and vetting of the individuals who
may work directly or indirectly with children at the club.
2.4.2.The Programme will endeavour to ensure that coaches and volunteers working with children
directly through their Junior team programme are CRB checked.
2.4.3.No coach, volunteer, or individual representing The Programme who is not DBS checked will work
directly with children.
2.5. Participation
2.5.1.Statutory Organisations such as schools should refer to their own child protection/safeguarding
children policy for the Programme representatives linking into the schools sports
programme/agenda.
2.5.2.Children who turn up to games, training, or events organised by The Programme, are recommended
to do so with an appropriate adult.
2.6. Accessibility
2.6.1.The Programme will provide an appropriate means of access to the policy and procedures for a
parents/guardians or appropriate adults.
2.7. Accountability
2.7.1.All concerns and allegations of abuse will be taken very seriously by the Committee of The
Programme, coaches, volunteers, or significant others.
2.7.2.Ultimately it is the responsibility of the person having concerns or alleging potential or active abuse
or their guardian to report it.
2.7.3.Anything reported to the Committee shall be investigated properly. However, the club has provided
some useful contacts below should individuals wish to report directly.
