Taylor St. UIC Hospital Suite 2200 The Division of Vascular Surgery manages the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory and members of the Division of Vascular Surgery interpret the noninvasive vascular studies performed. The Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital was one of the first in the Chicago area to be accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) and has held unlimited accreditation in the fields of arterial testing, venous testing, intracranial and extracranial testing continuously since 1993. Noninvasive vascular testing procedures performed include, but not limited to: Carotid Duplex Ultrasound Arterial Doppler evaluation for presence and degree of PAD (peripheral arterial disease) such as Claudication Color flow duplex imaging of the upper and lower extremity arterial and arterial vascular systems Evaluations for venous diseases such as varicose veins, valvular insufficiency and ulcers Preoperative arterial and venous mapping of both upper and lower extremity arterial venous systems in patients scheduled for vascular access procedures for dialysis and/or arterial bypass surgery Duplex imaging of the legs as surveillance studies to follow previously placed surgical bypass grafts as well as arterial stents Abdominal vascular duplex ultrasound exams Transcranial Doppler evaluation of the intracranial circulation Transcranial Doppler evaluation for the presence and grade of a patent foramen ovale Transcranial Doppler evaluation for evaluating children with a variety of vasculopathies such as sickle cell disease and moyamoya disease Cold immersion stress testing with digital artery pressures and temperatures measured for the valuation of Raynauds Phenomena Penile arterial pressure measurements for the evaluation of impotence The Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory performs approximately 8000 of the above procedures per year. The results are reported in a preliminary fashion by telephone to the referring and ordering physician immediately upon completion of the examination and written reports are available within 48 hours. The Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory is open between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tests can be scheduled by calling (312) 996-6230. All members within the Division of Vascular Surgery have extensive experience and excellent outcomes in carotid artery surgery as well as complex revascularizations of the vessels arising from the aortic arch. A multidisciplinary approach is what makes the surgical division unique. The Division of Vascular Surgery has developed a beneficial and multidisciplinary relationship with the Division of Interventional Radiology, Division of Plastic Surgery and manages the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory. Our vascular surgeons offer a full range of less invasive and simpler treatment options for your patients with vascular problems resulting in treated patients often resuming normal activities following short hospital stays. This division is involved in the diagnosis, evaluation and management of all types of arterial, venous and lymphatic disease exclusive of that affecting the heart and intracranial vessels. Our goal is to continue to provide state of the art treatment in order to give all patients with vascular disease, the highest quality of life possible. Vascular surgeons have partnered with the primary care physicians in managing patients with vascular disease for more than 50 years.
