APPLICATION FOR THE POSITION OF STUDENT REGENT 2010-2012
THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA
The Associated Students of the University of Arizona (ASUA), the Graduate & Professional Student Council
(GPSC), and the Arizona Students’ Association (ASA) announce the selection process for the next Student
Regent. This year, the Student Regent will be selected from the University of Arizona and will serve from July 1,
2010 to June 30, 2012.
Brief Description
The Student Regent represents all students from the state’s three public universities (ASU, NAU, and UA).
He/she will hold the full rights granted to all members of the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) and voting
privileges during the second year of the two-year term.
Qualifications
Each applicant must be a currently enrolled, full-time student at the University of Arizona with a minimum
cumulative GPA of 2.0 for undergraduates and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduate students. They
must also be residents of the State of Arizona. It is suggested that applicants have a general knowledge of the
legislative process in the state of Arizona, a basic understanding of the functions of the Arizona Board of
Regents, and a strong desire to represent students statewide.
Selection Process
Applications are due Monday, October 19, 2009. After an initial review of applications by the UA Student Regent
Selection Committee, eligible candidates will be asked to participate in a 30-minute interview to take place
between Wednesday, October 28 and Wednesday, November 4 with the Committee. Applicants will then be
notified by Sunday, November 8 if they are invited to participate in a second round of interviews and reception
with the ASA Board of Directors on the week of Monday, November 9, 2009. Following a review of applicants by
the ASA Board of Directors, the UA Student Regent Selection Committee will select three finalists and their
names will be forwarded to the ASUA Senate for confirmation and then to the Governor’s office. The Governor
then selects the nominee and forwards his/her name to the Arizona State Senate for confirmation as the new
Student Regent.
