HEADTEACHER COMMENT
Welcome back to all the parents and children, I hope that everybody had a deserved rest and both staff and the
children have recharged their batteries and are now raring to go. A particular welcome to all the new families to the
school, we hope that the relationship will be long and fruitful. This academic year looks to be one full of challenge
and excitement, brimming with hope and opportunities.
NEW STAFF AT HOLLYWOOD
We welcome six new members of staff to our team. Mr Bacon joins the school as a class teacher in Reception, Miss
Prottey will be teaching in Year 2 and Mrs Smith will be supporting the teaching in Year 3. In addition we welcome
Miss Turner who will be leading developments in the new ASD Base and Mrs McLeod and Mrs Tillesley who will also
be working in the new area. The new base is due to be completed towards the end of September and we are all very
excited about this new development.

We will continue our big push this year but these are outstanding figures for the year. 95.91% is a great result, the
best attendance the school has had. On Tuesday 2nd September we had a visit from a previous Lord Mayor of
Birmingham, Councillor Randal Brew who joined us during our assembly to talk about the importance of good
attendance. The current Lord Mayor will be joining us at our 100% attendance celebration at Highbury Hall on
Monday 22nd September (4.45pm – 7.00pm). The 100% reward visit to the cinema is on the morning of Tuesday 16th
September.
OPEN MORNING AND AFTERNOON
Just as we did last year we will be holding two drop in sessions next week, so that parents can meet the new class
teachers. Years 1, 3, 5 and 6 will take place on Tuesday 9th September from 2.30pm and Wednesday 10th
September at 9.00am. Years 2 and 4 will take place on Wednesday 10th September at 9.00am and 2.30pm.
SECONDARY TRANSFERS
There will be a short meeting for the parents of any Year 6 children at 6.30pm on Thursday 11th September to run

GUIDE DOG SPONSORSHIP
Following all your generosity last term we are delighted that we are now the proud sponsors of three guide dog
puppies. There are two Golden Retriever cross Labrador puppies called Katy and Rio and a black Golden Retriever
cross German Shepherd called Freddie. When you are next in school have a look at the noticeboard in the main
corridor which has pictures of the puppies and details of their progress. We are hoping to have more sponsored
puppies allocated to Hollywood in the Autumn.

MEDICATION IN SCHOOL
As it is the beginning of a new academic year could you please inform me if your child/children have any medical
requirements that we are not already aware of. Please can you make sure you provide us with sufficient and up to
date information so that I can update our records and inform our team/school nurse of any new medical
requirements. If your child is prescribed medication please fill in a form in the school office and hand it in there
making sure it is clearly labelled. If your child requires an inhaler then only a blue inhaler needs to be in school. This
also needs to be clearly labelled along with a spacer if necessary. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to
come and see me, I am based in Year 3.

BIKES IN SCHOOL
Children who ride their bikes to school must only store them in the bike sheds at both the Ashdale Drive and
Pickenham Road entrances. Many thanks for your co-operation with this important safety rule.
USED POSTAGE STAMPS
Please keep saving your used postage stamps – ask family, friends and work colleagues and send them in to your
child’s class. They will be managed by the School Council and sent periodically to Mr & Mrs Revell, our local Guide
Dogs for the Blind contacts (they can often be spotted in Sainsburys training puppies so please say hello to them
and tell them you are associated with Hollywood). Other news: Mr & Mrs Revell are keeping a dog for guide dog
breeding and have offered that Hollywood can have him as a school mascot. This will be very exciting and we will
update you as soon as we have more details.
POLITE NOTICE RE USE OF CHURCH HALL CAR PARK
As a courtesy provided to us from Immanuel Church, our staff and parents/carers are allowed to use the car park
adjacent to the hall (at your own risk). It has been noticed on a couple of occasions that vehicles are driving onto
the grassed area. This is not permitted. We therefore request that you please refrain from doing so or we may very
well lose the privilege of being able to park there. Parking half on the road and half on the pavement is preferable
to blocking the pavement.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE: The driveway of the Vicarage is private property and not available for use at any time. We
thank you in anticipation of your co-operation.
From Immanuel Pre-School Committee.
MACMILLAN COFFEE AFTERNOON
We will be hosting the Macmillan coffee afternoon on 26th September. Please put this date in your diary and come
along and support this excellent charity.
SAFEGUARDING
Our new visitor security system is now fully functioning and in place, can I ask any visitors to the school to sign in
and wait for a member of staff to accompany them to the room they are visiting.
