Laval High School has kicked off its major
fundraiser for this year. This will be your last
week to purchase tickets on a Grand Prize of

Remembrance Day Celebrations
Please take time on Tuesday, Remembrance
Day, to reflect and remember the sacrifices that
were made by our war heroes. The Royal
Canadian Legion will be having their
Remembrance Day parade on Tuesday where
they will march from the Legion to the war
monument where ceremonies will begin at 11:00
am.
Cavalier Sports Report
Sr. Girls Volleyball
The Sr. Girls Volleyball Team will be competing
in the SSNL 3A Girls Volleyball Regional
Qualifier tournament on the weekend of
November 14-15 @ Prince of Wales Collegiate
in St. John’s. Schedule to follow.
Sr. Boys Volleyball
The Sr. Boys Volleyball Team will be
competing in the SSNL 3A Boys Volleyball
Regional Qualifier tournament on the weekend
of November 21-22 @ Baccalieu Collegiate in
Old Perlican. Schedule to follow.

There will be practices for the Sr. Boys
basketball team:

Scheduled Statutory Holidays
Please be advised that November 10th is a
statutory holiday and November 11th is
observed as Remembrance Day throughout the
school district; therefore, there will be no classes
for students on those days.
The Laval Sr. Boys Basketball Team will be
competing in the Bill Brophy Invitational
Tournament @ Holy Spirit High School in
C.B.S. on the weekend of November 14-16.

Professional Development Day
Monday, November 17th will be a professional
development day for staff at Laval. There will
be no classes for students on that day.

Student Evaluations
Term one of the first semester ends on Nov. 21st.
Student progress reports will be distributed
during the week of Nov. 24 – 28th to be followed
up with parent-teacher interviews.
Laval’s Graduation
Laval will hold its annual graduation on Friday,
November 21, 2014 to honor the graduation
class of June 2014.
School Council
There will be a school council meeting on
Wednesday, November 12th at 7:00 p.m.
Math Tutoring
Tutoring times runs from 2:50 – 4:00 pm. from
Tuesday to Thursday as per the following
schedule.
Tuesday: Mr. Counsel
Wednesday: Mr. Follett
Thursday: Mr. Nash
Art Club
There will be Art Club every Thursday after
school. If you are interested in participating in
Art Club, please see Mr. Counsel.
Save the Date
Laval’s Christmas play will be held on Tuesday,
December 9th, Wednesday, December 10th
and Thursday, December 11th at the Arts
Centre, Placentia. We hope you can join us for
an evening of lively entertainment as our cast
performs, the Christmas classic "How the
Grinch Stole Christmas”. Tickets will go on
sale starting November 17th at a cost of $8.00
Year Books
We have a limited number of yearbooks
available at a cost of $25.00. If you would like
to purchase a yearbook, please drop by the
office.
Star of the Sea Association Scholarship
The Board of Directors of the Star of the Sea
Association would like to inform any students
who are eligible for their annual scholarships,
that the applications are now available at the
school office. These scholarships shall be
offered to high school (grade 9-level III)
students of living or deceased members of the
Star of the Sea Association. Deadline for
applications is December 1st, 2014
TD Scholarships for Community Leadership
These scholarships are open to students in their
final year of high school, have demonstrated
outstanding community leadership and
maintained a strong academic record. The TD
Scholarship for Community Leadership rewards
students who have shown leadership in many
areas including environmental cleanup, the
promotion of social justice, and the fight against
child poverty, to name just a few. Each
scholarship is valued at up to $70,000 and
includes up to $10,000 for tuition per year and
$7,500 a year toward living expenses.
Completed applications and supporting materials
are due no later than November 28th. For more

Youth Curling
Youth Curling Sundays from 6:30 - 7:30 for
grades 7-12. No experience necessary. $5.00.
Contact Mr. Counsel for more details. Also a
Curling Clinic this Sunday evening for grades 46 from 6:30-7:30.
Eastern Health – Flu Vaccines
Flu vaccine clinic will be held during the
following time:
November 19th: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
The clinic will be in the multipurpose room at
the Placentia Health Centre.
Our Lady of Angels Parish Census:
The Parish Pastoral Council will be conducting a
parish census this fall. We hope to have the
census completed before the end of December,
2014. This is a project which has been discussed
at the Parish Council over the past few years.
We hope to deliver the census forms to the
households in our parish communities. We will
need the help of parish volunteers to accomplish
this. Anyone wishing to help please call the
parish office. More info to come.
Tree of Memories
Placentia Health Centre will officially launch
our Tree of Memories on Thursday, November
20, 2014. If you would like to add a bulb in
memory of a loved one, please drop by the
Administration Office at Placentia Health Centre
Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The cost is $5.00 per bulb with a maximum of
two names per bulb. Our Tree of Memories will
be located in the Main Lobby at Placentia Health
Centre.
The closing Carol Sing and Prayer Service for
our Tree of Memories will be held on
Thursday, December 4, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in
the Multipurpose Room at Placentia Health
Centre.
Stepping Stones Family Resource Centre
Come see what we have to offer at Stepping
Stones Family Resource Centre, Placentia for
the month of November.
Our morning session runs from 9:30am 11:30am, and afternoon session runs from
1:00pm - 3:00pm.
