champion of British composers and has
played in film and pop music. His intimate
drawing-room recitals have included regular
performances before members of the British
and Spanish Royal Families. He will discuss
the classical guitar, illustrating his talk with
performances.
Sir Kenneth Warren was the MP for Hastings
(and later Hastings and Rye) from 1970 – 92.
Before that, he was an aeronautical engineer
with a wide experience across the world.

The Broadwood Piano
The Society’s AGM will reflect events and
finances during the year to September 2009
and new Officers and Committee Members will
be elected. Afterwards there will be the usual
Christmas programme of Members’ Requests –
members are invited to send the Chairman their
requests for pieces of not more than 10
minutes duration.
John Broadwood and Sons is the oldest
surviving piano maker in the world. The pianos
were used by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven,
Chopin and Liszt and they have had the Royal
Warrant since the 18th century. This year, the
company moved to Finchcocks, where Alastair
is Curator, and he is now the Director of the
company. Alastair’s family has been associated
with Broadwood’s for seven generations and he
will describe the history of the firm and its
future plans.
