The courses provide creative and inclusive approaches for engaging children in discrete phonics sessions and the use and application of phonics in reading and writing across the curriculum What the courses offer: • Clear guidance for the provision of a systematic, synthetic phonics programme following the pace and progression of Letters and Sounds • Strengthened practitioner knowledge and understanding of phonics subject knowledge, the place of phonics in learning to read and write, and terminology in line with EYFS 2014 and National Curriculum 2014 • Ideas for how to plan for phonics learning and how to support the application of children’s knowledge in reading and writing. Phonics for Teachers Friday 9th October, 9.30-3.30 Lilla Huset Centre This course will cover the underlying principles, progression, pace and practice of phonics teaching in line with the New Curriculum. The use of Letters and Sounds, planning, assessment and tracking will be discussed. Practical activities for engaging children in discrete phonics sessions and the use and application of phonics in reading and writing will be shared. Supporting children who are not making sufficient progress will also be included. The phonics screening test will be considered. Phonics for TAs Friday 27 November, 9.30-3.30 Lilla Huset Centre This course will help to develop knowledge and confidence in supporting children’s learning, in the use and application of phonics. We will cover the principles and practice of phonics teaching in line with the New Curriculum. Subject knowledge, enunciation, basic equipment and practical activities will all be included. We will look at how to use phonics to support children’s reading and writing. The use of Letters and Sounds and supporting children who are having difficulties will be covered.
