Collaborative Provision Risk Assessment for the Introduction of Placements
This guidance is designed to support the introduction of 120 credits of placement into existing 360
credit programmes contributing to 10% of the overall degree classification.

How many students will be eligible to participate in the Placement Year?
How and when will the Placement Year be promoted to students and is it intended that the programme
will be made visible in UCAS?

What is the latest point by which students can transfer to / from the Placement Programme?

How long will the Placement period be for (please state
if the period extends or is shorter than the standard

What FHEQ level of modules will be taken by outgoing
students? (e.g. level 4, 5, 6 etc.)
What is the module load to be taken by outgoing
students?
Are there any extra learning resources that will be
required as a result of the proposal? (if significant extra
resource is required, the proposal may need to be
referred back to the College PVC for further discussion)
Are there any extra staff resources required as a result
of the proposal? (if significant extra resource is required,

Are there any extra support resources required e.g.
staff support drawn on from outside of the
School/College in relation to quality assurance

Have the requirements of relevant professional bodies,
including adherence to educational standards, been
considered? (e.g. clinical placements supervised by UK
registered practitioners)
What are the stated fees for the Placement Year?
Are there any extra costs for outgoing Cardiff students
at the partner institution e.g. activities fee
(orientation), health insurance? If so, these need to be
fully stated in line with the requirements of the CMA.

Is it proposed that the Placement provider will be
involved in the assessment of students? If so, how and
what training will be provided?
What is the assessment strategy and its relationship to
the achievement of the intended learning outcomes at
each level of the programme?
What are the specific opportunities for re-assessment

What will be the impact of students failing the
Placement Year? (e.g. opportunities for transfer to
another programme)
How will student progress be reviewed and monitored?
(e.g. formative assessment)
Pastoral Care and Student Support
Please provide details of the pastoral care and student support provided by the School to students
when on a Placement Year?

What support is available to students who experience difficulties whilst on Placement?
What support will be in place for students returning to the University and re-integrating back into
