Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Critical Care,
Pulmonary Medical Associates of Northern Virginia at
the Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA.
Advanced practice clinician in a 24-bed Medical/Surgical
Intensive Care Unit. Practice includes direct interaction
with a team of intensivists to provide comprehensive care
for a wide variety of medical, surgical, neurological, and
neurosurgical patients in a critical care setting. Skills
employed include advanced physical assessment,
medication and diagnostic testing orders, placement of
central lines, arterial lines, and advanced hemodynamic
monitoring devices, thoracentesis and placement of chest
tubes, and coordination of multidisciplinary care provision.
Additional responsibilities include providing ICU consults
in the Emergency Department as well as in-patient units;
participation in the Rapid Response Team for in-house
critical situations.

ACNP, CCRN. Clinical experience designed to complete
the transition into the role of acute care nurse practitioner
by providing comprehensive care to intermediate level
trauma patients in a Level I trauma center. 206 clinical
hours completed.

Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Student Clinical
Placement, Anne Arundel Medical Center
Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Annapolis, MD.
Preceptors: Drs. Weinstein, Peterson, Yu, Young, Beck,
and Resnick, Board Certified Physicians in Pulmonary and
Critical Care Medicine. Responsibilities included providing
comprehensive care for ICU patients by performing
physical examinations, monitoring of vital signs and lab
work, evaluating diagnostic testing results, managing
ventilators including initial set-up and weaning. Practical
skills developed included assisting and performing
thoracentesis, central line placement, and endotracheal
intubation. Additional patient populations cared for
included Emergency Department patients admitted to the
intensive care service, pulmonary consults for hospital
patients, and outpatients undergoing bronchoscopy or
thoracentesis. 280 clinical hours completed.
Oct. 2005-December 2005
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Student Clinical
Placement, Kaiser Permanente Cardiology, Silver
Spring, MD. Preceptor: Suzanne Wingate, RN, DNSc,
CRNP, CS, FAHA. Responsibilities included evaluating
cardiology patients in an outpatient setting by performing
physical examinations and assessments, care planning,
exercise treadmill testing, and nuclear perfusion imaging.
Work involved collaborating with physicians, nurse
practitioners, and registered nurses, as well
echocardiography, pacemaker, and perfusion scanning
technologists. 150 clinical hours completed.
