Out of which 300 km in EDCF loan and rest are in GoB fund. 7 Major Scope of Works (Access Networks) • PON based optical Access networks is being built in 4 exchanges (Moghbazar, Central, Gulshan and SB Nagar) of Dhaka city • ADSL based Access networks for about 24,000 subscribers in 74 nodes has been built for rendering ADSL service over the existing copper cable networks in 32 districts and 4 upazilas. • Besides, it will be possible to provide IP bandwidth directly from the PoPs for medium and big subscribers through IP switch. • More than 100 km optical access network has also been constructed to connect different government offices, educational institutions and important locations. 8 II. Network Design 1. IP Network 1.1 Overview INFO-BAHAN project applies the IP/MPLS technology as a national data backbone network for the benefits of IP/MPLS as follows; MPLS is a high-performance packet forwarding technology that integrates the performance and traffic management capabilities of data link layer (Layer-2) switching with the scalability, flexibility and performance of network-layer (Layer-3) routing. Next generation IP backbone network services such as all IP and BcN network service are based on IP/MPLS technology. MPLS enables service providers to meet challenges brought about by explosive growth and provides the opportunity for differentiated services without necessitating the sacrifice of existing infrastructure. MPLS blends the intelligence of routing with the performance of switching, enabling service providers to extend the capabilities of IP to large-scale VPN implementations. So, using MPLS, VPNs have become much easier to deploy and scale. 9 II. Network Design 1.2 Routing Protocol Design 1) OSPF design Deploy the OSPF(Open Shortest Path First) routing protocol as an IGP for IP/MPLS network • OSPF can be easily used for MPLS-TE(Traffic Engineering) if necessary To consider the BTCL’s administrative divisions and traffic patterns, new IP/MPLS network is going to have 7 OSPF areas To accordance with the standard recommendation and experiences, less than 25 IP router nodes is going to be grouped into one OSPF area • Dhaka division has 2 OSPF areas • Khulna division include Barisal will be combined into one OSPF area For simplicity for network topology, OSPF backbone area is the same as IP/MPLS core domain 10 II. Network Design OSPF Area OSPF Area IP Nodes Backbone Area (Area 0) • Center node layer - IR (Interconnect balancing core network router) - CR (Core router) - VG(MPLS VPN Internet Gateway) • 6 area border routers Moghbazar Area (Area 1) • Dhaka division • Moghbazar, Comilla, Sherebanglanagar, Mohakhali, Uttara, Sayedabad, Savar, Tongi, DEPZ, Tangail, Gazipur, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Narshingdi and Bhoirab Central Area (Area 2) • Dhaka division • Dhaka Central, Nilkhet, Mirpur, Fakirapoul, Gandaria, Narayanganj, Chawkbazar, Babubazar, Khilgaon, Banashri, Dhaka Cantonment, Gulshan1, Baridhara and Bashundhara Chittagong Area (Area 3) • Chittagong division • Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar Exchange, Muradpur, Kalurghat, Sagorika, Feni, Agrabad, Bayezid, Rangamati and CEPZ Khalishpur Area (Area 4) • Khulna & Barisal division • Khalishpur, Faridpur, Barisal, Jhalokathi, Jessore, Khulna Central, Satkhira, Gopalganj, Madaripur, Magura, Bagerhat and Kushitia Sylhet Area (Area 5) • Sylhet division • Sylhet, Brahman Baria and Moulavibazar Bogra Area (Area 6) • Rajshahi division • Rajshahi, Bogra, Rangpur, Dinajipur and Pabna 11 II.
