Considerations

The desire to prohibit and control access to these dams is for public safety and / or resource protection due to:

Flood attenuation dams

Dams located in mountainous area associated with steep slopes and no safe public access to water surface

Balancing dams with water fluctuating water levels

Small reservoir surface area

Diversion weirs/reservoirs

Gauging weirs/reservoirs with small surface area

Servitude for storage only no public access

Protected areas with no public access

Absence of operational staff to control access – public access becomes a liability to the Department 13
