Totally Taste-y!

Celebrating fine food and the Italian lifestyle, Pitti

Immagine Taste is back for its 10th edition. Enjoy aperitivos and tasting extravaganzas. Meet master chefs. Explore Taste Tools and the Taste Shop, featuring fine kitchen tools and other items for sale.

Though the foodie event takes place primarily at

Stazione Leopolda, it touches all corners of town through Fuori di Taste, the event-within-an-event livening up various venues, from hotels (the Four Seasons) to bars (Ditta Artigianale) and shops (Vinoutlet,

Ladurée), just to name a few! For the full program, see the calendar on the website.

Man in Black

Take part in a tribute night to one of music’s most enduring icons. With an aperitivo (7.30pm), a movie (9pm) and a concert (11.30pm), Glue will pay homage to classic country musician Johnny Cash. Come early for cocktails and a buffet, then stay for a screening of the biographical film Walk the

Line (2005). Joaquin Phoenix plays the Man in Black, and Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar for her role as his ‘twin flame,’

June Carter Cash. Once the credits have rolled, make your way to the dance floor: tribute band Broadcash will perform.

Crafts for a cause

On International Women’s Day, take a stand against domestic violence at this vibrant marketplace, exhibition and celebration. Browse through handmade crafts from Italian and international artisans, and enjoy an aperitivo at 7pm. Ten percent of the proceeds from artisan sales will go to Artemisia, which supports women and children survivors of domestic violence; in 2014, Artemisia assisted almost 1,400 people in rebuilding their lives. Tickets can be purchased at the Paperback Exchange (via delle Oche 4/r) or at the door. If you cannot attend but would like to donate to Artemisia, visit the event’s Go Fund Me page at left.

Spiral showcase

Elton John’s song has nothing on this ‘circle of life!’ Vertigo, an unusual exhibition in town for just a short while, is arranged in a circular fashion. The layout corresponds to the broad, eternal themes being explored. The show spotlights

16 Italian and international contemporary artists who work in a variety of media—expect to see photographs, paintings, drawings and more. Pistoia-based artist Gabriele Palandri is the central artist; he has a solo show taking place concurrently in the Spadolini pavilion. For more information, see

Dayone-Art’s website.

Metaphysical

Italy

Weave your way up to Villa Bardini to catch 66 of Florencebased photographer George Tatge’s most striking photographs. Dense with symbolism and mystery, the images in

‘Metaphysical Italy’ explore the idea of human impact on land. Tatge addresses themes like human transience and transformation of landscapes. Deliberately ambiguous and open to interpretation, his photographs depict a range of subjects, from Renaissance churches to anonymous modern condominiums. For more details and an artist biography, see the Villa Bardini website.
