Legend states that the brothers Romulus and Remus, abandoned by their parents
were floated in a basket down a river Tiber and were raised by a she wolf.

They decided to found a city where the wolf found them.
•
While they were arguing over the location, Remus was killed.
•
Romulus became the founder of Rome.
•
Contrary, the Latins were the founders of Rome, draining the river Tiber
•
Latins were successful farmers and Rome was a very rich.
•
The wealth was used to create jealousy between Rome and surrounding people
starting an imperial sense of belief

The Roman Emperor and the senate resided in the center of the city
It was one of the two major trade centers
Every thing either went through Rome, or Constantinople
Rome was quite possibly the largest and most expansive city at the time
