ALL SAINTS DAY
'The custom of commemorating all of the
martyrs of the church on a single day goes
back at least to the third century. In
modern practice, All Saints' Day
commemorates not only all the martyrs
but all the people of God, living and dead,
who form the mystical body of Christ.

and Lectionary, 1973)

Preparation
M: We gather to worship in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit, our God, our creator, our
redeemer, who walks with us and
promises to be with us every step of
our lives.
16
We confess our failings to our
God and to one another:
(left) We have not loved you with
all of our hearts.
(right) We have not loved our
neighbours as ourselves.
(both) We have not responded to
your promise.
17
(left) We have put up walls to
keep people at a distance.
(right) We have failed to respond
when someone is hurting.
(both) We have not responded to
your promise.
18
(left) We are captured by our
desire for material wealth.
(right) We forget those who do
not have food or shelter.
(both) We have not responded to
your promise.
19
(left) We abuse the gifts of your
creation.
(right) We destroy your beauty
out of ignorance and greed.
(both) We have not responded to
your promise.
20
(left) We fail to respond to your
call to do justice.
(right) We seek only comfort for
ourselves.
(both) We have not responded to
your promise.

37
Isaiah 25; 6-9
6On
this mountain the LORD AllPowerful will prepare
for all nations a feast of the finest foods.

that cover the nations.

Isaiah 25; 6-9
8The
LORD All-Powerful will destroy the
power of death
and wipe away all tears.
No longer will his people be insulted
everywhere.
The LORD has spoken!
39
Isaiah 25; 6-9
9At
that time, people will say, "The LORD
has saved us!
Let's celebrate. We waited and hoped
now our God is here."
This is the word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God
40
Psalm 24 CEV
Who can enter the Lord’s Temple?
R: The Psalm is Psalm 24
1The earth and everything on it belong to
the LORD. The world and its people
belong to him.
C:The LORD placed it all on the
oceans and rivers.
41
Psalm 24
R: 3Who may climb the LORD'S hill or
stand in his holy temple?
C: Only those who do right for the
right reasons, and don't worship idols
or tell lies under oath.
R: The LORD God, who saves them, will
bless and reward them,
C: 6because they worship and serve
the God of Jacob
42
Psalm 24
R: 7Open the ancient gates, so that the
glorious king may come in.8Who is this
glorious king?
C: He is our LORD, a strong and
mighty warrior.
43
Psalm 24
R: 9Open the ancient gates, so that the
glorious king may come in.10Who is this
glorious king?
C: He is our LORD, the All-Powerful!
Glory to the Father and the Son, and
the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning is now, and
will be for ever. Amen.
44
Second READING
R: The second reading is written in
Chapter twenty one of Revelations
beginning at verse one.
Revelation 21:1-6a
The new heaven and the new earth
CEV
45
Revelations 21: 1 - 6
I saw a new heaven and a new earth.
The first heaven and the first earth
had disappeared, and so had the
sea. 2Then I saw New Jerusalem,
that holy city, coming down from God
in heaven. It was like a bride dressed
in her wedding gown and ready to
meet her husband.3I heard a loud
voice shout from the throne:
46
Revelations 21: 1 - 6
God's home is now with his people. He
will live with them, and they will be
his own. Yes, God will make his
home among his people. 4He will
wipe all tears from their eyes, and
there will be no more death,
suffering, crying, or pain. These
things of the past are gone forever.
47
Revelations 21: 1 - 6
5Then
the one sitting on the throne
said:
I am making everything new. Write
down what I have said. My words are
true and can be trusted. 6Everything is
finished! I am Alpha and Omega, the
beginning and the end..
This is the word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God
48
Gospel
John 11:32-44
Jesus raises Lazarus to life
M: The Holy Gospel is written in
Chapter 11 of the Gospel according to
St John beginning at verse 32.
C: Glory to you O Lord
49
John 11: 32 - 44
M: 32Mary went to where Jesus was.
Then as soon as she saw him, she
knelt at his feet and said, "Lord, if you
had been here, my brother would not
have died." 33When Jesus saw that
Mary and the people with her were
crying, he was terribly upset 34and
asked, "Where have you put his
body?" They replied, "Lord, come
and you will see."
50
John 11: 32 - 44
."35Jesus started crying, 36and the
people said, "See how much he
loved Lazarus."37Some of them said,
"He gives sight to the blind. Why
couldn't he have kept Lazarus from
dying?" 38Jesus was still terribly
upset. So he went to the tomb, which
was a cave with a stone rolled
against the entrance.
51
John 11: 32 - 44
39Then
he told the people to roll the
stone away. But Martha said, "Lord,
you know that Lazarus has been
dead four days, and there will be a
bad smell." 40Jesus replied, "Didn't I
tell you that if you had faith, you
would see the glory of God?"
52
John 11: 32 - 44
41After
the stone had been rolled aside,
Jesus looked up toward heaven and
prayed, "Father, I thank you for
answering my prayer. 42I know that
you always answer my prayers. But I
said this, so that the people here
would believe that you sent me."
43When Jesus had finished praying, he
shouted, "Lazarus, come out!"
53
John 11: 32 - 44
44The
man who had been dead came
out. His hands and feet were wrapped
with strips of burial cloth, and a cloth
covered his face. Jesus then told the
people, "Untie him and let him go."
This is the Gospel of the Lord
C: Praise to you O Christ.
54

Hymn
We sing:
Lord of all hopefulness
LHS 870
CAL293
Jan Struther 1901-1953
•
Lord of all hopefulness
1. Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of
all joy,
whose trust, ever childlike, no
cares could destroy:
Be there at our waking and give
us, we pray,
your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at
the break of the day.
Lord of all hopefulness
2. Lord of all eagerness, Lord of
all faith,
whose strong hands were skilled
at the plane and the lathe:
Be there at our labours and give
us, we pray,
your strength in our hearts, Lord,
at the noon of the day.
Lord of all hopefulness
3. Lord of all kindliness, Lord of
all grace,
your hands swift to welcome, your
arms to embrace:
Be there at our homing and give
us, we pray,
your love in our hearts, Lord, at
the eve of the day.
Lord of all hopefulness
4. Lord of all gentleness, Lord of
all calm,
whose voice is contentment,
whose presence is balm:
Be there at our sleeping and give
us, we pray,
your peace in our hearts, Lord, at
the end of the day.

I am the bread of life

Those who come to Me shall not
hunger;
Those who believe in Me shall not

And I will raise them up,
And I will raise them up
On the last day.
I am the bread of life
2. The bread that I will give
Is My flesh for the life of the world,
And those who eat of this bread —
They shall live for ever,
They shall live for ever:
I am the bread of life
Chorus:
And I will raise them up,
And I will raise them up,
And I will raise them up
On the last day.

3. Unless you eat
Of the flesh of the Son of man,
And drink of His blood,
And drink of His blood,
You shall not have life within you:
I am the bread of life
Chorus:
And I will raise you up,
And I will raise you up,
And I will raise you up
On the last day.
I am the bread of life
4. I am the resurrection,
I am the life.
Those who believe in Me,
Even if they die,
They shall live for ever:
I am the bread of life
Chorus:
And I will raise them up,
And I will raise them up,
And I will raise them up
On the last day.
I am the bread of life
5. Yes, Lord, we believe
That You are the Christ,
The Son of God, Who has come
Into the world:
I am the bread of life
Chorus:
And I will raise them up,
And I will raise them up,
And I will raise them up
On the last day.
