Graphing Equivalent Ratios and Rates
Additional Example 1: Graphing Equivalent Ratios
and Rates
A website earns $2 for each click on an
advertisement. Make a table that shows 5
equivalent ratios for the rate $2 per click. Plot
the points on the coordinate plane, and describe
the pattern.
Since the amount earned depends on the number of
clicks, use x for the clicks and y for the amount earned
to write ordered pairs: (1, 2), (2, 4), (3, 6), (4, 8), and
(5, 10).

Continued: Example 1
The amount earned (y-axis) increases by $2 for each
click (x-axis).

Check It Out: Example 1
Make a table that shows 5 equivalent ratios for
the rate $3.50/gallon. Plot the points on the
coordinate plane, and describe the pattern.

Since the dollar amount depends on the number of
gallons, use x for the gallons and y for the dollar
amount to write ordered pairs: (1, 3.5), (2, 7), (3,
10.5), (4, 14), and (5, 17.5).

Additional Example 2: Using a Graph to find
Equivalent Ratios
Use the graph to find 3 equivalent ratios. Then
identify the unit rate.
To find 3 equivalent ratios, choose any 3 points on
the graph: (2, 1), (4, 2), (6, 3).

Possible ratios: 1 , 2 , 3
2 4 6
The unit rate is a comparison where one of the
measurements has a value of 1.In this case, set the
time equal to 1 second.

The unit rate is 0.5 mile per second.
