WELCOME TO THE GAMALIEL CHURCH OF CHRIST Going the Second Mile “And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.” Matthew 5:41 Luke 9:23 “Then He said to them all, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.’” Christ challenges you to go beyond what is expected. Go the second mile in your service to God and others… even your enemies! Going the Second Mile With Your Family Ephesians 6:4; Titus 2:4-5; Ephesians 6:1-2 Ephesians 6:4 “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” Men: Are you leading your family to Christ? Do you shower your wife and children with your love and attention? Do you nurture them in God’s Way? Titus 2:4-5 “That they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.” Ladies: do you do the bare minimum in keeping your home? Do you show the love and attention to your husband and children that they need to thrive? Ephesians 6:1-2 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise.” Children: Do you do more than expected? Or the bare minimum required of you by your parents? Do you go beyond simple obedience, and honor them? Going the Second Mile With Your Family Ephesians 6:4; Titus 2:4-5; Ephesians 6:1-2 With Your Job Ecclesiastes 9:10; 1 Peter 2:18 Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.” Do you work hard only when others are watching? Or are you diligent in your work! 1 Peter 2:18 “Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh.” Notice that this integrity is required whether the master (employer) is good or bad! It does not change what God requires of you. Going the Second Mile With Your Family Ephesians 6:4; Titus 2:4-5; Ephesians 6:1-2 With Your Job Ecclesiastes 9:10; 1 Peter 2:18 With Your Brethren Colossians 3:12-13 Colossians 3:12-13 “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.’” Imagine the strength of this congregation if every member determined to go the second mile! Going the Second Mile With Your Family Ephesians 6:4; Titus 2:4-5; Ephesians 6:1-2 With Your Job Ecclesiastes 9:10; 1 Peter 2:18 With Your Brethren Colossians 3:12-13 With The Lost Acts 8:1,4; Luke 14:23 Acts 8:1, 4 “Now Saul was consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.” “4 Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word.” Luke 14:23 “Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.’” You would go the second mile to save someone from physical danger… Will you do so to save them from spiritual danger? Going the Second Mile With Your Family Ephesians 6:4; Titus 2:4-5; Ephesians 6:1-2 With Your Job Ecclesiastes 9:10; 1 Peter 2:18 With Your Brethren Colossians 3:12-13 With The Lost Acts 8:1,4; Luke 14:23 With Your Enemies Matthew 5:44-45 Matthew 5:44-45 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Yes, it is required of you, even with your enemies, to go the second mile! Philippians 2:5-8 Christ Went the Second Mile For You! Philippians 2:5-8 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Will you do the same for Him?
