ones and tens.

We know that numbers zero to nine have
only one digit. For example:
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Once we reach 10 we have two digits
and we call this 10.

Steps
Step one: Count ten bats.
Step two: Draw a circle around the group of ten
bats.
Step three: Keep making groups of ten until you
only ones left.
Step four: Write the number of the group of
tens in the tens column and the
number of ones left over in the ones column.
Step five: Write your number on the line. The number
you write is the number of bats that flew out of the
cave.
I will need to count them in order to find out how many flew out. I
will make groups of tens first and then count the ones left over.
