REED, DVM, ACVIM Dr. Stephen Reed graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1976. Following gradua.on, Dr. Reed served as an intern and then resident in equine medicine and surgery at Michigan State University. He accepted a faculty posi.on at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and later joined the faculty at The Ohio State University rising to Professor and was later named to the Jenne Professorship in Equine Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Reed is widely recognized for his commitment to the horse, equine veterinarians and the equine industry. A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, he developed an interest in the specialty of equine neurology and became recognized as an expert in this area. He has wri>en and spoken extensively on “wobbler” syndrome, equine protozoal myeli.s, head trauma and the neurologic examina.on. In addi.on, Dr. Reed has authored or co-­‐authored more than 150 peer reviewed publica.ons. He is an editor of Equine Internal Medicine, now preparing its fourth edi.on. He has also co-­‐edited with Dr. Mar.n Furr a textbook; Equine Neurology. Since leaving Ohio State he con.nues involvement in teaching and research, as an adjunct professorship at UK. Current research involves EPM with Dan Howe at UKY and with Dr. Ramiro Toribio of OSU collec.ng prospec.ve data on foals in the neonatal ICU unit of Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. Dr. Reed has worked with Drs. Jennifer Janes and Jamie MacLeod in the inves.ga.on of cervical vertebral steno.c myelopathy with focus, on the pathology of this condi.on as well as the role of gene.cs in this important disease. FERNANDO CANONICI, DVM, Equine Prac:ce Aler his gradua.on in 1982 at the University of Perugia, dr. Fernando Canonici spent three years (1983-­‐1986) as a veterinarian at the horse stables of a special group (show jumping and military parades) of the military army in Rome. There alerwards, he proceeded to the United States where he acquired a wealth of experience in Standardbred racetrack and in surgery through periods of experience in Colorado State, Ohio State University, even in a private hospital in Sweden and through AO/ASIF (Associa.on for Osteosynthesis) courses. He started his private prac.ce in 1986 at the tro>er and Thoroughbred racetracks in Rome, adding some job on equestrian horses to his loads of responsibili.es. At that point in .me, he founded a small clinic with his colleague where he started his surgery ac.vi.es and in 1997, he and two of his colleagues founded their own equine hospital (Equine Prac.ce srl) which offers advanced diagnos.c and surgical facili.es with consistent case loads each year. From 2001 to 2003, he was elected president of SIVE (Italian Associa.on of Equine Prac..oners) and he was in the board of WEVA (World Equine Veterinary Associa.on) from 2008 to 2011. Today, Fernando Canonici is a professor of surgery at the School of Specializa.on on Equine Medicine and Surgery at the University of Teramo. He is first author and a contributor to interna.onal scien.fic publica.ons. He has also a>ended many na.onal and interna.onal mee.ngs, olen as the guest speaker. During this period, she has specialised in orthopaedics and diagnos.c imaging spending .me in France and United Kingdome. She is an ISELP and ELADIS member. Francesca is currently working at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Perugia-­‐Equine, running a clinical referral service for lameness and poor performance. Francesca has published more than 15 papers in interna.onal peer reviewed journal and she has contributed with more than 40 short communica.ons at na.onal and interna.onal mee.ngs.
