Rationale
Atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) restorations follow the
concept of mechanical selective caries removal by hand
excavation, as well as restoration of the entire tooth cavity with
high viscose glass ionomer cement (GIC), including over
sealing of pits and fissures adjacent to the cavity. The
procedure is considered to be minimally invasive since it does
not rely on drilling and that patients require less the use of
local anesthetic.
