We can harken back to when Salvo Foti has his guiding hand turning these
underappreciated Benanti vineyards into glorious complex wines. The depth of the

Asili is among the most important Vineyards in the Barbaresco zone, earlier made
famous by Bruno Giacosa. There is much to love about Roagna’s equally compelling

While Rovittello shows the textures of Volcanic soil, Serra della Contessa
typically marries savory meaty flavors with great red fruit expression as well. The
bottle age helps to highlight those qualities, boasting red berries and stewed lamb
essence in this bottling.

The crown jewel of Marco de Grazia’s estate, the grapes for this cuvee come from
vines that date back to 1870. The resulting wine showcases the most mineral

This marks the very first vintage whereby Luca began to recognize the wealth of

Despite the generous fruit that this vintage suggests, there is still a remarkable

Luca’s Baroli tend to show a voluptuousness that we don’t encounter in his young

the most spectacular in Italy and fit perfectly into a handsome yet pretty frame. ‘Tov’ a complex
required great patience in the fashion that reminds us of classic years from decades ago. When
local mixture of sand, clay and limestone yields a chiseled yet seductive velvety structure,
the 1998 Barolos and Barbarescos were released, the wines remained formidably structured, with
powerful ripe red berry with delicate rose petal, and sturdy ageable wines often endowed with
a tannic attack that confounded reviewers and critics. Would the tannins ever assimilate into
pleasure even when young. We are lucky to list here a few classics and few delicious lesser

This winery was taken over by the illustrious Antinori family in 1989, immediately
lending the single crus a longer focus and vision than prior Prunotto bottlings. After
holding this wine back in their cellars, we jumped at a chance to share these 1998’s
directly from their holdings. Darker fruit and velvet inform this caressing Bussia.

wines like this bottling are showing wondrous richness married to the earthy

Beppe Rinaldi remains one of the rare stalwarts of the blending art, combining
these two renowned vineyards from the commune of Barolo. The result showcases the
broadest aromatic range of these selections with licorice and black truffle leading the
vanguard of scents.
Luca Currado, Vietti’s winemaker, has a winemaking style all his own.
Blockbuster fruit and complexity in conjunction with Brunate’s natural attributes
can be found in all three of these stunning wines
