Palestine During the Time of Jesus (Sea of Galilee, Jordan River, Jerusalem) Sea of Galilee • • • • Located at the north part of Galilee Not a sea, but a lake 24 km long and 11.2 km wide Also called Lake of Tiberias Sea of Galilee & Mount of Beatitudes Jesus loved the Sea of Galilee • Jesus met the first apostles Peter, Andrew, James, John on its shores • Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes for the crowd on its shores • Jesus did the Sermon on the Mount near the Sea of Galilee (Mount of Beatitudes) • Jesus calmed the storm that almost tipped over Peter’s boat • Jesus walked on the water of the Sea of Galilee The calm lake can quickly become a storm.
