QUESTION 1 What do you think God wants to see happening in your church? QUESTION 2 What does the Bible say a church should be doing? Acts 2:38-47 QUESTION 3 What prevents your church from doing what it should and realizing the blessing God wants to provide? QUESTION 4 What is needed to overcome these hindrances? MISSION OF GOD To glorify His Name To exalt Christ as Lord To reconcile the world to Himself To establish His Kingdom GLORIFY GOD To glorify God by becoming a lifelong, obedient disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, and To glorify God by making disciples of all nations. “Make Disciples of All Nations!” “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) Why does the church exist? To fulfill the Great Commission! “Therefore go and make disciples of ALL nations…” “Go” versus “Make disciples” Better translation: “As you are going through the world, be making disciples…” Making disciples is: The priority for ALL believers In a natural way, as a way of life. Not by teaching, but by BEING A MODEL! Making disciples is Leading others into a life-long, obedient, personal relationship with Jesus Christ which: Transforms their character into Christlikeness, Changes their values into Kingdom values, Involves them in His mission. The DNA of Discipleship 85-96% of Christians still are spiritual babies. Only 20% have spiritual maturity as a life goal. 75% of teens leave church at age 19. Only 1 in 30 Americans have a biblical worldview. Only 9% of born-again Christians have a biblical worldview. A worldview is the total set of values, morals, beliefs, and assumptions that a person holds either consciously or subconsciously. 3 in 5 adults want a deeper spiritual life but are not involved in trying to grow. 20 million Americans are committed to authentic discipleship. Where are we in discipleship? 1. Ignorant: I don’t know. 2. Apathetic: I don’t care. 3. Indifferent: So what? 4. Uncommitted: What’s in it for me? The Solution Repentance A radical return to following Jesus as His disciples A re-shaping of the worldview of Christians to a biblical worldview Luke 9:23 (NASB) “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” 3 Commitments I. Deny yourself: Life in the Spirit! • Repentance in order to experience Christ • Obedience to Christ and His commands • Giving priority to Christ over any person, purpose, or possession • Letting the Spirit control instead of self II. Take up your cross: Committed to Christ! 1. Spending time with the Lord 2. Living in the Word 3. Praying in faith 4. Fellowshipping with believers 5. Witnessing to the world 6. Ministering to others III. Follow Me: Making Disciples of All Nations! • Leading others into a life-long, obedient, personal relationship with Jesus Christ which • Transforms their character into Christlikeness, • Changes their values into Kingdom values, • Involves them in His mission. What is next? Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20(NIV) Prayers To ask God to make me one of His faithful disciples To be a model To ask God’s way to make disciples of our churches To ask God for reaching all people with the gospel of Jesus Christ “Survival Kit” is… One of the most effective biblical, theological, and doctrinal foundational resources The first step of discipleship training Available in 50 different languages “Survival Kit”: 5 Keys To Effective Spiritual Growth The Indwelling Christ: Controlling All 1 Body: Being a Part 2 Natures: Giving Daily Control to the Holy Spirit 3 Aspects of Salvation: A Life-Long Way of Life 4 Sources of Authority: Measuring All by the Scriptures 5 and 5 Principle: A Personal Plan for Sharing The Contents of Survival Kit Week Key Issue Danger Cure & Growth Week 1 Developing habits, attitudes, and commitments that ensure Christian growth Having a life without an adequate foundation for Christian The indwelling Christ: Controlling All Week 2 Learning to live in new relationship Being a Lone Ranger Christian 1 Body: Being a part of Body of Christits life and service Week 3 Learning to deal with your inner conflict with sin Overconfidence or trying to “fake” the Christian life 2 Natures: The Old and the New Week 4 Resolving doubts about your experience with Christ Ceasing to grow as a Christian 3 Aspects of Salvation: Beginning, Process, and Completion Week 5 Finding a dependable Authority for discovering truth and making decisions Being sidetracked by false leaders and false causes 4 Sources of Authority: The Adequate and the Inadequate – measuring all by the Scripture Week 6 Learning to share your faith effectively with lost people Becoming a “silent” Christian 5 and 5 Principle: Reaching Others through Prayer and Witnessing Discipleship Models MasterLife MasterBuilder Purpose Driven Church MasterLife A process for growing disciples Sequential discipleship development Based on small groups Led by a leader who models the attitudes and actions of a true disciple of Christ MasterLife 3 and 4 MasterLife 1 and 2 MasterLife MasterLife 1: The Disciple’s CROSS Helps the disciple develop a deeper relationship with Christ.
