In the last 10 years she set up and validated a new methodology for measuring stress-related hormones in saliva, which avoid the stressful event of venipuncture. She studies the HPA activity in different physiopathological conditions: aging, menopause, irritable bowel syndrome, amiotrophic lateral sclerosis, acute and chronic stress, focusing on the question whether steroid hormones (exogenous and/or endogenous) induced neurodegeneration and/or neuroprotection.
