Unpopular in society 1 Tim. 2:11-15 – Adam formed first - Eve was deceived and sinned (first) Godly Husbands Lead This does NOT mean she is his slave or footstool. NOT a piece of property to be abused Created as his helpmeet from his side – Gen. 2:18-24 1 Peter 3:7 - Honor his wife Eph. 5:28-29 –love her as his own body (himself) Godly Husbands Lead They lead by example, cf. 1 Cor. 7:13-14 They lead by listening 1 Peter 3:7 dwell with her with understanding He makes up his mind and acts in the best interest of his family He takes responsibility Godly Husbands Love Their Wives Love is absolutely necessary in marriage Eph. 5:25, 28-29 In Greek language, at least 4 different words translated love in English language – agape, storge, phileo & eros All 4 involved in marriage relationship Godly Husbands Love Their Wives 1 Cor. 7:3-5 Render unto her “due affection”, i.e. the marriage bed. He is not to deprive her. Col. 3:19, “Do not be bitter toward her.” Not hateful, abusive, of despising her Godly Husbands Love Their Wives Keep the fire burning, even after the honeymoon is over - Go on dates - Little things - Remember your anniversary, her birthday, etc. - Praise her – Prov. 31:28-29 Let us Respect God’s Role for Us as We Fulfill Them
