Ijtihad
Meaning:
The word Ijtehad is derived from
“Juhd” employment of effort or endeavour
in performing a certain activity.
 Importance in the Quran.
 Importance in the Hadith.
Introduction:
 Ijtihad is “to strive with one’s total ability and
efforts to reach a goal’’ which in this case is “To
endeavourer to deduce the divine laws of
shariah from the reliable sources and proofs”
 To reach the stage of Ijtihad therefore is the
capacity to give an expert opinion in the matter
of Islam.
 With in the legal philosophy of Islam, it refers to
a logical deduction on a legal or theological
question which has not before arisen

o Social welfare like construction of mosques, hospitals,
colleges, sanitations, making bridge, establishing
libraries, orphan houses, visiting places, roads etc.

o Islamic education, its propagation in the form of practical
help and funding.
