Market information ICT in Armenia is a large and rapidly expanding sector. ICT contributes to 1,7% of the Armenian GDP, which is a bigger share than in India. In the last twelve years, the sector grew on average 27% per annum. Moreover, new ICT companies are generating 20% of the annual growth. Therefore, Armenia provides opportunities for the Dutch ICT sector. The Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia and Armenia has good contacts with the Armenian IT-sector. The Armenian workforce is well-educated, and IT, engineering, physics and mathematics have developed university programs. The costs of labour are low, and as a result operating cost are low as well. Armenia was called ‘the Silicon Valley of the Soviet Union’, but the current government sees ICT as a priority as well. Solid government support for the development of and investments in the IT-sector is guaranteed. Armenia provides opportunities for both outsourcing and expansion. Most Armenian companies are working with software development, outsourcing, and IT services etc. There is an added value in involvement of the innovative Dutch industry. The Armenian ICT sector adds annually € 300 million to the national economy. In 2011 $ 118,1 million of this was made by foreign companies. In 2011 there were 281 operating ICT companies in Armenia, of which 107 had foreign origins. At the moment more than 400 companies are employing 10.000-12.000 people.
