Schools, parks, embassies, playgrounds... such facilities have special requirements with
regard to efficient security. They have to be accessible to public but they also need to be
protected against vandalism or external violence. Often aesthetic properties of the fence
are important, to fit with the architectural concept of the building.

ZONE A: school entrance
The entrance to the site determines
the overall impression it gives which
is important for a school. The fencing
must therefore be attractive and secure.
Properties that reflect the school’s
image. It must also have functional
qualities (stopping unauthorised people
from entering the school), without
damaging the inviting character.

ZONE B: school building
It is important that school children are
able to move within the entire school
compound with safety. The fencing
ensures that they do not accidentally
stray onto the road.
The fencing must always offer good
visibility through it, so that any
intruders will be noticed quickly. In a
built-up area the fence must have a
transparant look.

Different security requirements exist for different zones on an public site. It is possible to establish the
most appropriate fencing system for each area by identifying these different zones. This example uses a
school to demonstrate this.
ZONE C: bicycle park

The bicycle park must be protected
from theft and vandalism. It must also
be easily accessible, so that large
groups of cyclists can enter or leave
the park at the same time.
The fencing must be and look secure
so that people with bad intentions
are immediately discouraged. It is
preferable to choose a system that is
hard to cut through or damage.

ZONE D: play zone

The protection of children is essential,
but a play area may not look like a
‘prison’. That is why a fence of low to
medium height is chosen here. Visibility
through the fence is essential to make
supervision possible.
The fence must be completely safe
and the children should not hurt or trap
themselves on it. The entrances are
protected by gates.

Case study: Nursery school Zagreb – Croatia
Betafence gives the Zagreb infants the play area they need
The nursery is an eye-catching, colourful
two-storey building. The site is not
particularly big, which gave the architects the
idea of putting another playground on the roof
of the first floor. The playground on the ground
floor was protected by Betafence Nylofor 3D.
The welded mesh panels ensure safety and
security, so that playing infants do not end up on
the street. For the fencing on the first floor the
architects chose a Betafence Securifor 3D solution
for maximum safety.

Besides being easy to look through the Securifor
panels are almost impossible to cut. The special
fold in the 3D shape prevents infants climbing
the fence. From now on all the children will have
enough space to play... in complete safety!

Securifor® Case study: Olympic Centre – Warsaw – Poland
Betafence present at Olympic level in Warsaw
The modern Olympic Centre in the heart of
Warsaw is a meeting place for sportspeople,
lovers of culture and particularly for all
Olympic athletes. The unique elliptical shape
of the building makes the centre an excellent
and representative place for conferences,
seminars or business meetings.
The owner was looking for a fence that matched
the building’s shape and thereby offered an
aesthetic improvement. Important additional
criteria were durability and corrosion resistance.
A black Betafence Nylofor 3D fence was chosen.
Decisive factors in this choice were the aesthetic
properties of Nylofor 3D along with the security
this fencing offers. Other factors were the short

delivery time, the simple installation and the
guarantee.
Since May 2004 the Nylofor 3D fence surrounds
the Olympic Centre covering a length of 700
meters. Betafence Robusta turnstiles secure
the entrance. The Polish president Aleksander
Kwaniewski officially opened the centre and…
found it magnificent!

Case study: Walibi Park – Waver – Belgium
Betafence as the protection of a magical place
In 2006 theme park Walibi opened the gates
of a renewed theme park that is unique in
Europe. Besides countless rollercoasters
and various attractions, attention was
particularly made to the security fence
Securifor 3D.
Public come to a theme park to have a pleasant,
adventurous and exciting day.
A carefree and safe feeling are a part of this.
One of the elements contributing to this is the
secure and integral fencing around the site.
Combined with concrete plinths, on which the
Securifor 3D panels stand, a total height of
2.70 m is reached.

Due to the close mesh apperture the fence
cannot be climbed so that non-paying visitors or
intruders are stopped. But the panel is aesthetic
but remains easy to see through.

Case study: Court building Antwerp (Belgium)
The feeling of safety: a challenge for Belgian Justice
The new Antwerp court building is a glass
house, which wishes to project hospitality and
accessibility. Originally there was no fencing
planned. The courtyards were an extension of
the park and would be freely accessible.
Considering safety and prevention of vandalism
the Ministry of Justice demanded that a fence
be provided in a second phase. The Betafence
Securifor panel with rectangular post and cover
plate was chosen. The security price-quality ratio
and aesthetic considerations were decisive. The
various entrances were equipped with automated Bekamatic gates, secure cantilever Robusta
sliding gates and secure Securifor turnstiles.
Fencing and gates join seamlessly. The small
mesh of the Securifor fencing also has a deterrent effect on possible intruders.

Case study: Locomotion Museum in Shildon (U.K.)
Betafence puts the railway museum on the right track
Weldmesh Gabions are a technically reliable product with unique qualities in building. Gabions are
mostly used as walls. They can easily be erected
and filled with a diverse range of materials.
Plants can be included in the design, so that the
landscape does not lose its natural look.
The Locomotion Museum in the English Northern
town Shildon is an ode to the rich past of the
British railways. The building was designed to
be as environmentally friendly as possible: solar
panels, windmills for energy provision, a biodiesel bus for transporting visitors... A free-standing

tic element along the path to the museum.
The wall gives a natural and visually architectural
finish. Hand stacked limestone was chosen as the
filler.
A resounding success, since the project was nominated for the Gulbenkian Prize, the top prize for art
in the United Kingdom.

The Betafence guarantee is granted
on request for all special projects
under the following terms and

• the installation is exclusively realised with
Betafence products
• the distance from the coast is at least
500 metres
• the products are installed according to
Betafence’s instructions
Special conditions for projects at less than
500 metres from the coast:
• on request products are produced and delivered
according to adapted specifications
• the guarantee will be 5 years in this case
