Delivering Quality Projects: On Time. On Budget
COMPANY
An engineering project manufacturing global company
specializing in the design, implementation and service of
automated material handling systems, and is one of the leading
suppliers of baggage handling systems worldwide.
.
CHALLENGES
Needed to deliver the project on time and budget whilst
collaborating with the customer on design and engineering
refinement. Had to manage subcontractors and 12 different
divisions.
Every few months the project’s focus changed, For instance, the
emphasis shifted from steelwork and mechanical concerns to the
electrical and testing aspects of the project. “We had to make
sure that all of the subprojects were linked in the right way, while
keeping an eye on the project’s overall critical path. “Primavera
enabled us to create indices of cost, schedule and labor
performance, all of which were closely monitored
SOLUTIONS
Used Primavera P6 resource and project management in every
aspect of their project manufacturing project from sales to
engineering, manufacturing and deployment.

CUSTOMER PERSPECTIVE
“With Primavera it’s much easier to sort
and organize different views of a project
than with other project management
software.”
Monique Wood, Lead Planner

Alcatel TAS-Austria: Managing Complex Resource
Requirements
COMPANY
Alcatel TAS-Austria develops and installs software systems for
railway infrastructures, both within control centres and the
Austrian network itself. These projects often last for several years
and are resourced by a pool of employees. These people offer a
range of skills and tend to work on several projects
simultaneously.
CHALLENGES
To be successful in the international arena, Alcatel TAS-Austria
needed to become project-focused. At first, the organisation
relied on project management software that needed to be
enhanced by a variety of tools developed and implemented
by individuals to suit their own requirements. As a result,
valuable information was isolated in silos that only a few
people could access.
SOLUTIONS Oracle Primavera P6 EPPM
Since the existing software tool was unable to cope with the
complex multi-project environment and handle the resource
planning needs of the organisation, Alcatel TAS-Austria decided
that a radical new solution was required – Primavera. Within six
months of implementing the project portfolio management
software, the time required for project tracking was dramatically
decreased by 50 percent while re-planning time was reduced 25
percent.

CUSTOMER PERSPECTIVE

managers were able to streamline

FMC Technologies
Enhancing Global Planning Processes
COMPANY OVERVIEW
The company provides technology solutions for the energy
industry and other industrial markets, operating 23manufacturing
facilities in 19 countries. Spun off from parent company FMC
Corporation in 2000, FMC Technologies designs, manufactures,
and services technologically sophisticated systems and products,
such as subsea production and processing systems, surface
wellhead systems, high-pressure fluid control equipment and
measurement solutions.
CUSTOMER PERSPECTIVE
“We selected Primavera because it is a
best-in-class project planning tool Early
on…It didn’t take long for our business
managers to recognize the benefits of
using the Primavera project management
solution.”
David Nemetz, Project Manager
Challenge
FMC Technologies recently launched a global planning systems (GPS)
initiative designed to help redefine and improve corporate planning
and project management processes. Previously, detail planning was
executed on a per-plant basis. With the formation of the GPS team in
late 2006, FMC Technologies recognized project management as a
core competency that the company needs to develop and grow.
Solution
The rapid growth of the oil and gas industry challenges FMC
Technologies to optimize all of its resources. Besides straining the
supply base, dramatic market growth makes it difficult to acquire
resources that can quickly add value to the organization. The
company is also facing the change introduced by its quality
programs. Once just a manufacturing initiative, the increased focus
on building a quality culture introduced change into groups ranging
from engineering and project management to financials and
customer service.
Copyright ©2009, Oracle. All rights reserved.
RESULTS
The GPS team has created global
standards, settled on a single work
breakdown structure for projects, and
outlined unified planning policies.
When the rollout is complete, some 6,500
employees will be affected by the
change.
The value delivered by Primavera
solutions should only increase as the
GPS rollout proceeds.
FMC Technologies believes that the new
GPS initiative will deliver the change
management capabilities that will drive
additional business success.
