The mission of GCMI is to accelerate the development
and commercialization of next-generation medical
devices and medical technology that can save lives
and improve quality of life.

Critical Market Need for GCMI
• Medical Device commercialization and job creation is
lagging in the Southeast.
• Medical Device ideas, talent, IP and high value
employment either fail to take root or are lost to other
regions.
• Root Causes:
– Major infrastructure gaps
– Lack of investment capital
– Limited commercialization expertise available to inventors,
startups and small companies

market and other product development insight.

STTR Grant Assistance
• GCMI is classified as a “Non-Profit Research
Institution,” which allows GCMI to collaborate with
small businesses on STTR awards.
• GCMI provides a unique service to fund up-front
support to help select medtech companies secure
STTR grants and provide ongoing project support.
• STTR grant thresholds are $150K for Phase I and $1MM
for Phase II – R&D dollars.
• Focus on collaboration & commercialization supports
proposal and may increase likelihood of success.
• The GCMI grant program will provide high quality
grant writing/submission expertise without the need to
hire new employees or redirect valuable human
capital.

GCMI Education Series
• GCMI has created a quarterly Education Series to
help Member organizations explore and understand
medical innovation and entrepreneurship.
• Members have priority registration.
• GCMI will coordinate personalized education
sessions for Members on a case-by-case basis:
– Include regional experts
– Broaden network across Southeast
– Expand partnerships between academic and healthcare
institutions
