• Provide high value business intelligence pertaining to Trade,
Investment and Economic Facilitation and Implementation
• Provide Trade and Investment Facilitation Services
• Enhance the value of local economic development initiatives
• Provide project conceptualization, project initiation,
partnership formation and investment securing services, and
to coordinate critical public – public and public – private
interfaces in support of economic development

Sector Profile – Agroprocessing
Definition
•
Agroprocessing is a process of converting (value –
adding) primary agricultural products (plant or animal
origin) into tradable commodities.
•
The process entails cutting, milling, slaughtering,
fermenting, drying followed by packaging
Sector Profile - Gauteng
• Gauteng houses 50% (40 000) of food manufacturing
companies in South Africa
• 50 000 total employment
• R10 billion contribution towards Gauteng’s GGP
(Gross Geographic Product)
• Only 0.5% contribution to Gauteng GDP in 2009
• Estimated to grow at an annual average of 2.2% per
annum between 2009 & 2013.
