Impede Development
 Each day of delay = reduces trade by at least 1%

 Poor trade facilitation affects the composition of trade

IRU delegation met with the Head of the Egyptian
Customs Authority to review the facilitation and security
benefits that the TIR System can offer not only to Egyptian
trade and international road transport, but to the entire

IRU Academy improves road
safety in Jordan through ADR
programme
Amman, February 8, 2012
The IRU Academy conducted a three-day Train the Trainers
session in Jordan for its Transport of Dangerous Goods by
road (ADR) programme. Instructors from the Royal
Automobile Club of Jordan (RACJ) and from Mowasalat
(Qatar) attended the sessions, which mostly focused on
transferring training methodology, presenting training
materials and sharing best practices

delivers first ADR Training
Programme in Qatar
Doha, April 10, 2012
Mowasalat successfully delivered a 3-day pilot ADR
Training Programme for both Transport in Packaging and
Bulks and Transport in Tanks. This initiative falls under a
regional project for League of Arab States (LAS) countries
and aims at improving road safety and road transport
efficiency.

LAS and the IRU meet with the Director
General of Saudi Customs
Riyadh, May 1, 2012
An IRU delegation, in partnership with the League of Arab
States (LAS) and under the leadership of the LAS Deputy
Secretary General, H.E. Dr. Mohammad Twaijiri, met with
the Director General of Saudi Customs, to discuss the tried
and tested security benefits which the TIR System can offer
to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to intraregional as well
as global LAS trade.

The IRU, together with League of Arab States (LAS) met
with the Minister of Transport of the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia, H.E. Dr. Jeberah Al Sreisri, to help drive trade and
thus progress, prosperity and ultimately peace throughout
the LAS region by having the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia take
a leadership role to implement the key UN multilateral
facilitation and security instruments, and as a priority, the
TIR System.

First meeting of IRU Regional
Committee for Africa welcomes Algeria
and Libya as new Member countries

The IRU Regional Committee for Africa (CRIPA),
together with the new IRU General Delegate for Africa
welcomed two new Members, Algeria and Libya, bringing
the total number to 22 African countries who
have
expressed their commitment to facilitating trade among
African nations through international road transport.

First Pan-Arab institute to become accredited for the CPC Manager
Programme in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

IRU Academy trains Instructors on
CPC Driver Programme in Qatar
Doha, May 22, 2012
The IRU Academy conducted a ‘Train the Trainers’
session on its Certificate of Professional Competence
(CPC) Driver Programme, attended by 14 instructors from
its Qatari Accredited Training Institute (ATI) Mowasalat,
which focused on transferring training methodology,
presenting training material and sharing best practices
through group exercises and activities.

Manager Programme training to
Egyptian instructors

The IRU Academy delivered CPC Manager Programme
training sessions to 14 instructors from the Arab Academy
for Science Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT)
of Egypt and senior managers from several major Egyptian
road transport companies. The sessions focused on
equipping the instructors with the necessary training
methodology, material and best practices to deliver high
quality training.

IRU Academy provides CPC Manager
Programme training to Instructors of Gulf
Cooperation Council countries
Muscat, June 13, 2012
The IRU Academy delivered a CPC Manager Programme
train the trainer to instructors from Oman, Qatar and the
United Arab Emirates. Hosted by Hi-Tech in Muscat, the
sessions focused on equipping the instructors with the
necessary training methodology, material and best
practices to implement and deliver high quality training to
road transport operators.

IRU calls on African
stakeholders to implement key
UN facilitation conventions
Rabat, June 14, 2012
IRU addressed a workshop of the Ministerial Regional
Study on Trade and Infrastructure Facilitation for the
Maghreb countries, and called on all stakeholders to
ratify and implement the key multilateral UN trade and
road transport facilitation instruments, such as the TIR
and Harmonization Conventions, as well as to develop
professional transport capacity building based on
professional training as provided through the IRU
Academy and on the establishment of rules to access
the profession, in order to ensure the facilitation and
efficiency of national and international road transport
across the African continent.

IRU calls on African stakeholders to
implement key
UN facilitation conventions

Major public and private stakeholders met to discuss a concrete
action plan aimed at speeding up the efforts undertaken by Egypt to
join the TIR Convention in the very near future. Organised under the
patronage of of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce,
the meeting brought together all relevant authorities including Egyptian
Customs, Ministry of Interior, Import / Export control authority, Ministry of
Transport and Traffic Police, as well as representatives from the
transport industry.

Qatari training centre delivers pilot
CPC Driver Training Programme
Doha, July 11, 2012
The IRU Academy announce that the Karwa Transportation Training &
Development Centre (KTTDC) delivered a 4-day CPC Driver Training
Programme to student drivers. With this training programme, the first of
its kind in Qatar, KTTDC is further developing its training capability after
having successfully implemented the ADR training programme.

IRU workshop showcases benefits of

At the invitation of the Deputy Secretary General for
Economic Affairs of the League of Arab States (LAS), His
Excellency Dr Mohammed Al Twaijiri, the IRU briefed the
LAS Transport and Tourism as well as the Trade and
Investment departments on the benefits for LAS Member
States to join the key UN multilateral facilitation and security
instruments, such as the Harmonization and TIR
Conventions.

Egypt keen on joining TIR Convention

The IRU met with the Egyptian Customs Authority to discuss and
prepare the action plan for Egypt to ratify and implement the TIR
Convention. Mr El Salhawy highlighted, “the implementation of the TIR
Convention in Egypt is a key step towards ensuring economic
development and the connection of Egyptian trade to world markets.”

Over 60 participants representing major stakeholders in
the transport of dangerous goods in Qatar participated in
the International Seminar on Road Transport Capacity
Building and Professional Training organised by the IRU
Academy in cooperation with Mowasalat and the Arab
Union of Land Transport (AULT).
