FARMA Support:
FARMA is supporting Lamaruž to improve marketing
and promotion of its products with improved
promotional materials, assistance in marketing and
introduction of new distribution channels such as the
Duty Free Shop at the Sarajevo Airport.
“Udruženje žena / Women association Podrinje”
Skelani
Products: lavender seedlings, essential oils
FARMA Support:
FARMA supported the Women Association in Podrinje
with a grant and technical assistance to expand the
cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants. Through
FARMA assistance, new lavender plantations (5 ha)
are planned to be established and 20 women to be
engaged in sustainable cultivation.
FARMA Support:
FARMA supported “Faveda” with a grant to improve the
development of value-added products. New products,
such as medicinal juices and medicinal teas, were
developed as a result of the assistance. In addition,
FARMA helped “Faveda” in marketing and promotion in
local and international markets. As a result, the
company now exports its products to Turkey.
“Beekeeping Association of Sarajevo Canton”

Products: Different kinds of honey and honey products
(pollen, royal jelly)
FARMA Support:
FARMA supported the association through training and
study tour to Slovenia on good beekeeping practices to
improve the production of honey.

ABOUT
FARMA
The FARMA project is a collaboration of the U.S.
Agency for International Development (USAID)
and the Swedish Government. FARMA's approach
focuses on four integrated components:

Building of sustainable market linkages for
BiH producers
Increasing of access to finance
Building the capacity of producers, their
organizations and other counterparts, and
Enhancing the policy environment to benefit
the competitiveness of BiH agricultural goods.
In addition to the direct support and technical
assistance in selected sub-sectors (Fruit and
Vegetable, MAP and Honey, Dairy production),
FARMA also has a component for EU Integration,
Standards and Environment, as well as Access to
Finance and Grant Funds.
The strategy of FARMA is not to invent or create
but rather to introduce to BiH farmers business
practices and products that are already proven to
be good profit performers.
PROJECT
RESULTS
• The exports of FARMA beneficiaries are up by 46%.
• Three new agricultural products have been exported to the EU,
due to FARMA support.
• Twenty-four (24) producers internationally certified.
• Foreign Direct Investments in FARMA beneficiaries amount to 5.8
million dollars.
• More than 18,200 farmers adopted new technologies or
management practices.
• Over 515 organizations benefitted from FARMA’s expertise,
assistance and investments to-date.

Products: Semi-hard cheese from cow, goat
and sheep milk. Smoked cheese.
“AZ Eko Flora” Kupres
Products: Kupres cheese from cow milk,
Kupres cheese from sheep and cow milk,
Kupres cheese from goat milk, smoked
cheese, cheese with spices.
“ZZ Promilk” Šćipe, Prozor
Products: Hard cheese from cow and sheep milk
“OPZ Zlatna Kap”Jelah, Tešanj
Products: Hard cheese from cow milk, hard
cheese with spices, Tesanj feta cheese, Tesanj
feta cheese with garlic, cottage cheese from cow
milk, butter, peppers in cream, and cream.
FARMA Support :
FARMA supported these dairy processors through grants to improve the processing capacity as well as
a series of study tours and training sessions in Slovenia to improve the production methods and
increase the variety of cheese. As a result, more than 16 new varieties of cheese have been produced
including cheese with spices and smoked cheese. In addition, all of these small dairies have been
assisted to implement higher food safety standards and quality control systems. Assistance is also
being provided to improve environmental performance.
“Kuća prirode” Kakanj/Sarajevo
Products: 100% natural fruit juices – without
preservatives and sweeteners- made from
apples, cranberries, and beets, to name a few.
FARMA Support:
FARMA supported “Kuća prirode” with a grant
for new processing equipment, including a
semi-automated line for bottling, to enable
greater volumes of fruit to be processed for
juice. As a result, “Kuća prirode” has
substantially increased juice production and its
products are sold both in BiH and Sweden.
ZZ “Insieme” Bratunac
Products: raspberry, blackberry, fruit jams
FARMA Support:
FARMA supported ZZ “Insieme” to further
improve the food safety and quality control
systems, which helped the cooperative to
obtain certifications required for accessing
new markets.
“Heko/H&H Fruit” Bugojno
Products: fresh strawberry and berry seedlings
(blueberry, raspberry, currants and chockberry)
FARMA Support:
FARMA supported Heko/H&H Fruit with a grant
to improve post harvest handling through
cooling facilities, which resulted in increased
exports of raspberries by 44%, almost all of it
to the EU.
“PZ Bios” Vratnica/Visoko
Products: fruit (strawberry, apples), vegetables
(pepper, green salad, potato, onion and
eggplant)
FARMA Support:
FARMA is supporting “PZ Bios” through technical
assistance and support for promotional and
other market-linkage events to enhance
cooperative’s access to desired markets.
“Mem Voćar” Podlugovi/Ilijaš
Products: fresh cherries
FARMA Support:
FARMA supported Mem Voćar through technical training and study tours. These activities enabled
“Mem Voćar“ to improve their production and market access.

“Organska kontrola” Sarajevo
Organic Certification Body
FARMA Support:
FARMA provided substantial technical assistance to Organska Kontrola (OK), a local certification body,
to help it become recognized in the EU. As a result, “OK” has recently become recognized in the EU as
a certification body with standards and control systems equivalent to EU regulation for organic
production. The“OK” is the only organization from the Balkans which has obtained such EU
recognition. This means that products certified as organic by the “OK,” can access the EU organic
market.
