Pitch: 10 min Q&A: 5 min GAIA’s Living Labs BIRD LL, SPORTIS LL, MOBILITY FOR SUSTAINABLE TERRITORIES, ERGO LAB, NClic Idoia Muñoz Idoia@gaia.es GAIA • GAIA is the Association of Electronic and Information Technologies in the Basque Country, a private and professional non-profit organisation, established in 1983, currently made up of 260 companies that offer products and services in the field of electronics, information technology and telecommunications. • GAIA's mission is to boost the development and growth in the Electronics-IT and Telecommunications sector, and to favour the assimilation and efficient usage of the sector's technologies, with the aim of collaborating in the development of the Information and Knowledge Society. GAIA’s Living Labs • Bird Living Lab - a project of high naturalistic and environmental interest that studies and explains the migration of birds in a privileged area like Urdaibai. It is an applied research center where visitors can watch birds and participate in research projects. Urdaibai Bird Centre combines: research, tourism, training and environmental education, all this with the support of new technologies with the goal of developing innovative projects. • Sportis Living Lab - The SPORTIS Living Lab is a conducive environment for innovation for the local, national and European sports sector; it stimulates the technological innovation and promotes the creation of technology based companies with the involvement of end users. It is an entity which coordinates and identifies projects in the sports and health areas in the Basque Country. • Mobility Lab - permits the involvement of users, companies or individuals in all stages of a design process for mobility solutions. In this Lab we are working on developing mobile solutions and services primarily to the segments ICT, transport, health and energy. • Nclic Lab – it promotes innovation in learning models working together with schools, companies, art and sport sector. • Ergo Lab - ErgoLab is a laboratory aiming at involving these two actors: citizens / users and SMEs in the current innovation scheme of the Basque Country. What Horizon 2020 theme(s) fits your living lab? …Horizon 2020 themes: • Industrial Leadership • Societal challenges • Excellent Science Gaia’s Living Labs have connections with all three themes. First of all, we pursue industrial leadership in the Basque Country as our mission, and we try to address societal challenges like, aging society, low carbon emission, smart cities, etc. in all 5 living labs. Finally, we also try to support excellent science in, for example, Bird Living Lab participating in European projects as testers and opening promising new fields and innovation through our collaboration. What is your living lab all about? …initial story Our story in ENoLL started in 2010 with our first 3 Living Labs (BIRD LL, SPORTIS Lab and Mobility) in the European Network of Living Labs. We started our promotion organizing workshops which aims was to inform local governments, research institutes, companies and universities, about the potential of the Living Labs and the methodology behind them.
