PHD ADMISSIONS BROCHURE
APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FROM SUITABLY QUALIFIED AND HIGHLY
MOTIVATED STUDENTS WILLING TO PURSUE RESEARCH IN
DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING AT INDIAN INSTITUTE OF
TECHNOLOGY, HYDERABAD IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

3. BIOMATERIALS
4. NANOMEDICINE
5. REGERATIVE MEDICINE
MINIMUM ELIGIBITY CRITERIA
• First class or 60% marks (55% marks for S
C/ST) in Master’s Degree in Science/Eng
ineering / Technology
• M.Tech./M.E./M.S.(Engineering/Techn-ology) degree with first class or
equivalent in the respective or allied
areas.
• Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in
Engineering/Technology or Master’s
degree in Sciences in an allied area and
possessing a valid GATE score may also
apply. For those who have not yet
completed their qualifying examination,
marks up to the 7th semester/ 3rd year
(for B.Tech. students) and 3rd semester/
1st year for PG students will be
considered.
• Candidates with CSIR-NET-JRF / UGCNET-JRF award for Research fellowship or
equivalent or GATE Qualification are
encouraged to apply
• Optional: Candidates with some
knowledge/experience of Material
Science/ Synthetic chemistry would get
preference to biomaterials,
nanomedicine and tissue engineering
streams.

BIOMEDICAL IMAGING
Novel non-invasive bio-imaging techniques, Coherence
imaging and microscopy techniques, Molecular contrast
agents and Targeted molecular imaging, Nanoparticles,
Targeted drug delivery and Bio-photonics applications

Micro and Nano Scale flows and particle/cell interactions,
Biomolecule transport and Mesoscale Properties,
Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD) simulation, MicroNano Fabrication of Lab-on-a Chip devices and Biosensors.

BIOMATERIALS
Evaluation of biomaterials inside in vitro and in-vivo
surrounding for their possible application. Molecular
analysis of the process of angiogenesis and osteogenesis.
Study of biomaterial-stem cell interaction for
differentiation of cells in specific pathways.

GENERAL INFORMATION
• Financial support will be provided to all Indian students
enrolled in the Full time Ph.D. programme provided they do
not receive any other form of financial assistance
• Residency requirement is compulsory for external registrants
to complete the required course cred its (a minimum of four
(4) courses) in the first year
