A Report on 2nd International Conference on Soft Computing for Problem Solving (SocPros 2012) (December 28-30, 2012) Organized by Institute of Engineering & Technology JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur, India Inaugural SESSION The Conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Madhukar Gupta, (Divisional Commissioner, Govt. of Rajasthan) on December 28, 2012 at 10.30 AM with lighting of the holy lamp and invoking blessings of Goddess Saraswati. Inaugural SESSION Dr. Upinder Dhar, Patron of the Conference and Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, JKLU, Jaipur delivered the welcome address. In his address, he shared his happiness that in a short span of time JK Lakshmipat University has Successfully organized two International Conferences. He also said that with the advancement of Computational Techniques and Computational Intelligence, organizations are now having better control over their processes and phenomenon. Inaugural SESSION Dr. B.V. Babu, General Chair, SocPros 2012 and Director, IET, JKLU delivered opening remarks for the conference. He shared with the audience that how the idea of SocPros 2012 was generated. He also said that Soft Computing is going to play an important role not only in Science and Engineering, but its influence will be extended farther. He briefed that about 313 papers were received amongst which 200 papers were accepted for presentation. Inaugural SESSION Dr. Kusum Deep, General Chair, SocPros 2012 and Professor, IIT Roorkee, extended warm welcome to the delegates and participants to the conference. Along with thanks to the committee members, She acknowledged that her decision to conduct SocPros 2012, 2nd in its series at JKLU was a wise decision. She also proposed next edition of the conference to be organized at IIT Roorkee, Noida Campus. Dr. Millie Pant, Programme Committee Chair and Associate Professor, IIT Roorkee briefed about division of the accepted papers in 20 sessions. She requested participants to attend sessions and strengthen their knowledge about Soft computing approaches. Inaugural SESSION Dr. Kanad Ray briefed about special sessions scheduled during the conference. Inaugural SESSION Chief Guest of the Occasion, Dr. Madhukar Gupta, IAS, Divisional Commissioner, Govt. of Rajasthan shared his pleasure over the progress that the university has made in short span of time. Dr. Gupta shared that technology is changing lives and world has become a global village. He lightly shared that conferences are not only for fun, dinner and lunch but mainly for knowledge crunch. He shared that he has problem with word ‘problem’ as problems need to seen as opportunities. He shared that we need to demystify the problems in the country so that simpler and cost effective solution can be developed. Release of Conference Souvenir Inaugural SESSION The Inaugural session concluded with Vote of thanks by Dr. Umesh Gupta, local organizing chair. The Master of the Ceremony was Dr. Sanjay Kumar. Key NOTE Address 1 The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. Dipankar, University of Memphis, USA. He put forward lot of opportunities in different areas like cloud computing, usage of mobile devices in health informatics, pervasive computing and social networking and covered latest advances in immunological approaches. The sessions were chaired by Dr. Millie Pant, Dr. Ashu Sharma and Dr. Amit Jain, Dr. Sandeep Tomar, Dr. Vipin Jain, Dr. Ashwini Sharma, Dr. Sonal Jain. Workshop on “The Game Design and Game Development” The workshop was conducted by Arijit Bhatacharya, CEO,Virtual Infocom. Key note address 2 The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof Anirban Bandopadhyay, National Institute of Material Sciences, Japan. He introduced brain inspired and bio-inspired computing with very interesting 3 dimensional clips. Cultural Evening The evening was made pleasant by melodious performances of faculty and students of JKLU. Key note address 3 By Prof. Ravindra Guddi, IIT Bombay He discussed challenges of process system approaches and explained how fuzzy reasoning helps to make smart decisions for efficiency and productivity. Key note address 3 Invited Talk The invited talk was delivered by Dr. P. C. Jha, Delhi University. He shared strategies for an optimal advertising media planning for multiple products of a firm operating in diverse regions based on mathematical modeling. Technical Sessions 11 Technical Sessions were conducted on Dec. 29, 2012. The sessions were chaired by Dr. S. S. Handa, Dr. P. K. Kapoor, Dr. M.K. Soni, Dr. Santosh Dhar, Dr. R.C. Mittal, Dr. P.C. Jha, Dr. Kannan Govindan, Dr. G.S. Dangayach, Dr. Sandeep Tomar, Dr. D. Nagesh Kumar and Dr. Kapil Arora. Key note address 4 The Key Note Address 4 was delivered by Dr. D. Nagesh Kumar, IISc Bangalore. He discussed soft computing applications in Water Resources Management and demonstrated Ant Colony Adaptation for Reservoir Operations. Special Tutorial on “Fundamental Aspects of Microtubule in Brain like Computing” by Dr. Anirban Bandopadhyay Doctoral Thesis Presentation Three Doctoral Thesis were presented for the award. Gala Dinner at Amber Vatika Technical Sessions Technical Session 20 was conducted on December 30th 2012. The session was chaired by Dr. Millie Pant. Key note address 5 Delivered by Prof. Ajoy Ray, Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur. He talked about understanding and Controlling the uncertainty in engineering and medical systems- Soft Computing based approaches. Invited Talk by Dr. Kanan Govindan, Associate Professor in Operations and Supply Chain Management at University of Southern Denmark. He talked on “Application of metaheuristic for reverse supply chain management”. Thanks
