EHR |HIE Interoperability Workgroup Healtheway Partnership
• Assures overall success of the Compliance Testing Program:
• Achieves a larger market impact through support of a uniform set
of testing requirements and testing process
• Helps unify industry and avoid market fragmentation
• Required minor work to establish a harmonized set of
implementation specifications and testing requirements due to
significant overlap in specifications
• Brings together shared stakeholders, as many states / vendors
are engaged with both IWG and the eHealth Exchange
• Strengthens shared vision, evidenced through common testing
program goals and objectives
Testing Program Goals
• Overall Goal:
• Reduce barriers to HIE, establish interoperability, while minimizing
cost and complexity when possible
• Test once and capable of exchanging with many others
• Cover transport, transactions and content
• Product Certification
• Provide market assurance and technical clarity in compliant products
• Assure Provider to HIE interoperability
• eHealth Exchange Participation Testing
• Verify that implementations of successfully validated products are
compliant as a condition of participation in the eHealth Exchange
• Assure interoperability among participants in the eHealth Exchange
HIE Certified Programs
• HIE Certified Community™, for electronic health
records (EHRs) and other health IT systems, that will
enable state-wide patient data inquiry allowing clinicians
to query an HIE for information on specific patients
• HIE Certified Direct™ that provides a simple way for
providers to send secure health information directly to
trusted recipients, including patients, over the Internet
• HIE Certified Network™ for HIE-to-HIE connectivity and
for connection to the eHealth Exchange
