Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome our first newsletter of the 2014/15 school year.
All at the HSV wish to extend a very warm welcome to all of our new and returning families and hope that you all had an enjoyable summer and are looking forward to the upcoming school year. As we say every year to those families new to The Hague and the HSV please do not be afraid to ask us if you are uncertain or have questions or concerns.
Moving country and school can be a daunting experience and one that all of the HSV international community have experienced. If we at school cannot help you, we can usually put you in contact with someone (usually another parent) who can.
We are pleased to publish our Annual Update to the school brochure. Please read this carefully.
A full version of the School Brochure is being given to new families and is available for existing families on our school website.
We hope that you will all support what is our first International Fair on Friday September
19 th . This will be the opportunity for families to share with each other different food from their home countries. We ask that every family contributes by coming along with a dish. This will make for a lovely start to the school year.

Staffing Update
In our letter at the end of the year we introduced the staff who were joining the HSV at the beginning of this school year. In addition
Mr. Dai Baker has also joined the staff, covering Janine Ric-Hansen’s maternity leave as a cover teacher. Dai has moved to The
Netherlands from Spain. We are very pleased to welcome Vivienne Koevoets back from maternity leave. I am pleased to inform you that Mr. Toby has a new addition to his family, a baby daughter Julia. Janine Ric-Hansen has given birth to a baby son James.
We would also like to congratulate Claire
Williamson who following her marriage during the summer will be known as Claire Smith.
Jessie Hills was involved in a biking accident while on holiday and is expected to be out of school for the beginning weeks of term. We are looking at ways of organising cover for these lessons.
Brenda Scholten taught gym at the HSV for more than 25 years and is retiring this
September. Sadly Brenda has been sick over

Dit is de eerste nieuwsbrief van het schooljaar
2014-2015
Wij allen van de HSV verwelkomen u weer op school. Hopelijk heeft u kunnen genieten van een goede zomervakantie.
Speciaal welkom aan de nieuwe gezinnen die dit jaar voor het eerst bij ons zijn.
Heeft u vragen, begrijpt u iets niet, schroom dan niet en neem even contact op. Wij helpen u graag.
Het jaarlijkse informatieboekje krijgt u via uw kind mee. Hierin vindt u informatie bestemd voor dit schooljaar.
De schoolgids zal weer worden gepubliceerd op de website.
Op vrijdag 19 september wordt er een
International Fair georganiseerd. Hier zullen families uit verschillende landen hun eigen land presenteren.
Dit is bij uitstek de gelegenheid om elkaar aan de start van het nieuwe schooljaar beter te leren kennen.
Wilt u nog meehelpen neemt u dan even contact op met een lid van de OAC.

Personeel
Een nieuw gezicht in de Nederlandse afdeling is juffrouw Judith Preston in NA1b. Echt nieuw op school is ze niet, ik denk dat de meesten van u haar wel kennen.
Jarenlang heeft zij gewerkt in de ID en heeft nu, met de komst van het tweetalig onderwijs, de overstap naar de NA gemaakt.
Zij is een tweetalige leerkracht, met Engels als moedertaal. Wij wensen haar veel succes.
Binnenkort gaan we afscheid nemen van
Brenda Scholten . Zij heeft jarenlang de gymlessen op diverse locaties verzorgd. Haar gezondheid laat haar in de steek. Daardoor is zij al een tijdje uit de roulatie.
In een speciale bijeenkomst zullen we afscheid nemen van haar. Wij wensen haar alle goeds en vooral een goede gezondheid.

Newsletter/Nieuwsbrief september 2014 the recent years so was not able to work as a gym teacher. We will be saying goodbye to her in a special assembly. Over the period thousands of children have been taught gym by
Brenda. If any of you want to pass on any special wishes you can leave cards with your
Location Leader.
The majority of the ID teachers take advantage of the Dutch regulations giving them regular time off during term time. These ‘compensation days’ usually total fourteen and a half in a school year and can either be taken as a block of days, or spread throughout the school year.
The school specifically employs teachers to teach on these days, which means there is little disruption to the continuity of the teaching programme.
Parent Information Evening
This will be held on Thursday 11 th September.
You will have the opportunity to meet your children’s new class teacher and support and specialist teachers. You will receive more information in a separate letter.
Student Data Form-Change of address
Please remember to inform the school of any changes to information. It is your responsibility to provide us with up to date information and it is essential that this is done.
Some Dates
There is no school for all children on Monday
15th September when teachers will have a study day and no school on Tuesday 16th
September as it is Prinsjesdag.
Thursday 17th September, it is Walk to
School Day (Schoolbrengdag) .
The children will receive a special 2014 HSV badge to commemorate it. Please support this national initiative by ensuring that you walk at least some of the way to school on that day.
On Friday 19 th September we will hold the first of what we hope will be an annual HSV Event ,

Informatieavond
Op donderdag 11 september is de informatieavond. U heeft hierover al bericht ontvangen. Ook vakleerkrachten, remedial teachers en de interne begeleiders zijn aanwezig.
Indien u hen wilt spreken zij staan voor u klaar.
Gegevens
Wilt u zorgen dat wij beschikken over de juiste naam en adresgegevens van u en uw kind(eren), een correct telefoonnummer en een werkend emailadres. Op deze manier kunnen we u bereiken en kunnen we zorgen dat alle informatie goed aankomt.
Komende activiteiten
Maandag 15 sept, studiedag, alle leerlingen vrij
Donderdag 17 sept, Schoolbrengdag, graag de kinderen naar school brengen met de fiets of lopend en nu eens niet met de auto.
Vrijdag 19 sept. International Fair.

Zondag 21 sept. Internationale dag van de
Vrede.
Fietsen
Wilt u geen fietsen plaatsen op de brug en ook niet in het looppad naar de ingang van de school. De fietsen bemoeilijken het lopen naar school en belangrijker, de brug en het looppad zijn vluchtwegen in geval van nood.

Nassaulaan News
New Members of Staff
Juf Ruth Lampitt teaches ID2. Juf Suzanne
Mulder (not Juf Suzan Oosting!) teaches DAL for some hours. Other new faces this week were Miss Mary Rose Pinfold, Mr Dai Baker and
Miss Sara Davis. All settled in really well. Miss
Natalie Bowman will be class assistant to Juf
Erin in IDR. Juf Judith teaches in NA1b of the
Bilingual Department.
Playground:
Our Playground is still under construction
Mr Paul Halsema and his coworkers have worked hard on our new Green school playground over the last weeks. The educational area is almost complete and looks great! Some tables made of oak for art and craft have been placed there.
A lot of progress has been made as well in establishing the Green Science and Discovery area. The hill is almost complete and the towers for the top will also be placed in in some weeks.
In the interest of safety of the children the discovery hill will be fenced off for the next weeks. The workers will continue to work.
Most of the planting will be done in the autumn just prior to the autumn break. We will involve pupils as much as possible in this.

Sports Area is on hold for the moment as funds still need to be raised for this .
We are very grateful to 2 HSV for the funds received. Mr Raymond van der Meer the chairperson donated 10.000 euro to the
Playground Committee during the Zomerfeest and a cheque for 1000 euro for the library. We are very grateful.

Wanted: two enthusiastic dads for the
Parent Activity Committee!
After the summer break, our two current dads in the Parent Activity Committee, Adam Waters
(ID) and David Brounts (NA), will both leave the OAC, after years of hard work for our committee. We would like to find two new enthusiastic dads to take their places
(preferably one from ID and one from NA).

Schoolplein
Dat was wellicht even schrikken, de aanblik van ons plein, toen u weer voor de eerste keer het plein opliep.
In de zomervakantie is er hard gewerkt aan het plein. Paul Halsema en zijn team hebben letterlijk en figuurlijk een berg verzet.
Het educatiedeel is op de beplanting na klaar.
De speelheuvel wordt zo snel mogelijk opgeleverd.
We moeten er wel rekening mee houden dat niet alle bomen en planten nu al geplant kunnen worden. Dat zal gebeuren als de goede tijd voor deze planten en bomen is.
De verwachting is dat we voor de herfstvakantie het plein officieel kunnen openen. Wanneer precies hoort u nog.

De realisering van het plein is mede mogelijk gemaakt door 2HSV.
Tijdens het zomerfeest heeft Raymond van der
Meer, voorzitter 2HSV, een cheque van
€ 10.000 geschonken voor het schoolplein en een cheque van € 1000 voor de bibliotheek.
Hartelijk dank daarvoor.
Het sportgedeelte blijft voorlopig nog in oude staat. Hiervoor moeten we nog sponsors vinden. Daarom staan alle activiteiten dit jaar in het teken van het vinden van financiën voor het sportgedeelte.

OAC OPROEP
De OAC zoekt twee nieuwe enthousiaste vaders
(bij voorkeur een van NA en een van ID), die de OAC een paar jaar willen komen versterken!
De plek van penningmeester komt met het vertrek van David ook vacant, dus kandidaten met kennis van financiën zijn zeer welkom!

New Overblijf Supervisor
We said goodbye to Kayleigh our Overblijf
Supervisor before the holidays. She is returning to her studies and we wish her all the best. We have a new Overblijf supervisor Nicole Piccinno.
English Book Sales
English Books from Usborne and Rainbow
Books will be available for sale on Wednesday
10th after school, on Thursday 11th at drop off and during the Parent Information Evening on the 11th.
Traffic/Bicycles
Just a reminder that cars do not drive down the
Nassaulaan and turn at the school gate. It is better to park at the Plein 1818 and walk the last bit. The bridge is an emergency escape route and bicycles may not be parked there at any time.
Please be courteous to one another at the very busy times. Safety of our children remains our highest priority at all times.
International fair
On September 19th the Parent Committee will be hosting an International Fair at school! The goal of the International Fair is to give the different nationalities at our school the possibility to present themselves to the children in school and their mums and dads.
Every nationality is free to decide how they would like to do this; find something special or unique from your country that you would like us to see, hear, or taste! The OAC will provide tables/stands that you can use, the rest of the organisation is up to the participating nationalities. Parents who would like to participate in the International Fair with their country (continent, region), are requested to contact Carla Vieira from the

Run for Peace
The registration for the second edition of the
Vredesloop/Peace Run The Hague, is open! It is possible for runners to enter in different categories. Children can register for the 1,5 and
2,5 km Kids run.The Vredesloop is held on 20th
September 2014 and will be held in the area around the Peace Palace. It is a wonderful
Overblijf coördinator
Wij hebben afscheid genomen van Kayleigh als coördinator. Zij is weer gaan studeren. Haar plaats is ingenomen door Nicole Piccinno.
Wij wensen haar veel succes.
Boekverkoop
Op woensdag 10 sept. , na schooltijd en donderdag 11 sept. voor schooltijd en gedurende de infoavond is er de mogelijkheid om Engelse boeken te kopen.
Usborne en Rainbow Books zullen aanwezig zijn met een stand vol boeken.
International Fair
Op vrijdag 19 sept na schooltijd wordt een
International Fair georganiseerd.
Hier kunnen families hun land en cultuur laten zien. We hopen op deze manier elkaar beter te leren kennen.
De fair gaat door bij voldoende aanmeldingen.

Loop van de Vrede
Op zaterdag 20 wordt de internationale
Vredesloop georganiseerd. Kinderen kunnen 1,5 en 2,5 km lopen.
Het festijn vindt plaats rondom het
Vredespaleis.

Dag van de Vrede
Op vrijdag 19 sept. schenken we aandacht aan de Internationale dag van de Vrede. In de klas zullen we hierover spreken. Wij nodigen de kinderen uit op deze dag een wit T-shirt te dragen.

Peace Day at School-Friday 19th
September
On Friday September 19th we will celebrate
International Peace Day at school at NSL. Pupils are all invited to wear white t shirts on that day.
